No Williams, No Edwards No Problem

Post by Great Natale »

Lets just face it- we won't get an impact player this year. The Bears are going for a WR. I can't imagine BOTH the Titans and the Vikings passing on one. This could be a good opportunity to get some role players. Lets trade down a get some cheap draft picks. I don't see the Emergency to get a #1 receiver this year when they will cost us more than they're worth due to such a lack thereof. Lets work with what we got. Jacobs and Thrash. Philadephia made it two 3 NFC championship games with Thrash and Pinkston. I know WR is a need but it might be best addressed NEXT season.

What do you guys think. Are we in a emergency status? Do you think we should give up MORE draft picks and MORE money to move up in the draft and get a WR of our choice?

I want to draft Mike Williams really bad and would support trading up to get him. I was really worried earlier about Moss leaving the Vikes. But after visiting their messageboard, they are overwhelmingly wanting to draft defense with their #7 overall. However, it doesn't matter what the fans think.
Let us all gather around and drink the Cooley-Aid of the Redskins.

I agree with great natale we don't need to pay top dollar for a WR, Coles isn't going anywhere and if he does we will get something, either picks or a player and late round pick. I want Miami CB Rolle, will fill Smoot's void. Just can't go wrong with a player from the U in the top 10. If coles does give back his signing bonus and is trades that would free up some nice money for someone like DT Kevin Carter or Samari Rolle would not mind getting one of those two studs, Imagine Carter and Griff both can play DT or DE what a rotation.

I heard that Jayson Taylor/Williams (not sure of his last name) from Miami is going to be released. He's a top defensive end and we could really use one.

Big difference between Jason Taylor...and Jay Williams (released by Miami http://www.nfl.com/teams/story/MIA/8222351 .

Jason Taylor is the probowler...he is not going anywhere.

PS - the "Williams" mentioned in this thread was referring to WR Mike Williams.

Is this the guy you were thinking about??

I asked Jake about his abilitiies, sounds a wee bit risky.

I think it's very hard to predict what we will need in the draft. We still have the very long process of free agency to go. But I'm betting WR isn't on the list for anything but free agency, we need someone that is going to produce right away and we won't get that out of a rookie.

M. Clayton: 80 rec. 1193 yards 7 td's
L. Fitzgerald: 58 rec. 780 yards 8 td's
R. Williams: 54 rec. 817 yards 8 td's
L. Evans: 48 rec. 843 yards 9 td's

Rookies don't produce???????? Everyone needs to stop saying that. The days of waiting three years for rookies to come into form are long gone...

I'd be happy with Williams or Edwards at this point.

Ok so it's alright with you if our NUMBER one receiver has only 8 td's for the year??????? It would be fine and dandy if we were looking for another 2nd or 3rd but we need someone to lead our WR's. And a rookie isn't going to cut it. Don't degrade my opinion because it isn't yours pal. I am entitled to my own, like it or not.

We need a big physical playmaking WR, now. The rules have changed favoring the wr's, with the chuck rule strictly enforced. A playmaking wr will do wonders for our dreadful offense. Draft Williams!!!

Rookie dont produce? This is really good for a rookie, better than Gardner and close to Coles. These are really good number for rookies.

Ok what I am saying is that they do not produce as much as a veteran free agent would. I am sorry I have to spell that out for you, I thought it was pretty plain. Comparing the two I'll take the Free Agent over the Rookie, even if the rookie is the God of football Mike Williams himself. :-P

Well 8 TD's for our #1 WR is a lot better than 1 TD thrown by a running back wouldn't you agree? This wasn't one opinion vs. another. You said rookies don't produce and that was an incorrect statement.

Where is this money you're talking about that we'd need to get a guy to lead our WR's? No one is saying draft a WR and automatically put him at the #1 spot. We're saying draft a WR because we need them. Rookies produce.

The problem being EasyMoney that we don't need another number 2 or 3. We have those guys already. We need a number 1 guy. And if Mike Williams can't be that then where does he fit in??

No one knows if it's going to be Williams or someone else. They might not even draft a WR. If we get Moss then we have 2 #2's and 2 #3's, you're right. We don't have the money to sign a big time FA WR. There is more potential in someone you haven't seen over someone you have. I wouldn't shut the door on Williams or Edwards because they're rookies.

I understand your point. I am sick of people saying he's the ticket. I like what you've said much better. We basically have to hope that someone who ends up on our roster steps up to be a number one guy. I just am leary of drafting a guy who hasn't played in a year and from the sounds of it isn't going to run at the combine. I think if a player thinks he's too good to perform at the combine then likely he will only cause issues here for us later.

I honestly think he's skipping it because he and the team that's going to draft him have already worked things out. He's a beast dude, trust in that.
