1980 OLYMPIC USA VS. RUSSIA HOCKEY ON ESPN CLASSIC

Post by wormer »

If you are not old enough to remember this game being played it is a MUST SEE!!!!!

This might be my #1 sporting event memory of all time...including the Skins first Super Bowl win!

Believe...

Everyone said they couldn't do it. Nobody gave them a chance. Either the 1980 US Olympic Hockey team didn't hear the prognosticators or they simply didn't listen. At the height of the Cold War in 1980, that team inspired a nation by providing one of the greatest upsets in the history of sports, defeating the heavily favored team from the Soviet Union at the Olympics in Lake Placid. They called it "Miracle on Ice" for good reason in what is still considered as the ultimate David vs. Goliath. Names like Eruzione, Craig and Brooks would never be the same. On February 22, the 25th anniversary of that "Miracle," ESPN Classic presents ESPN25: The Headlines, #1 - Miracle on Ice at 7 p.m. and Classic Big Ticket: Miracle on Ice at 8 p.m. ET.

- Kenny Morrow (4 Cups with the Islanders...steped right into the early '80s unbeatables)

- Mike Christian

- Mark Johnson (son of "Badger Bob)

- Mark Pavelich...best scorer on the team; didn;t like the NHL.

Some pretty good players lurking on that team.

Some not so good ones too.

Herb Brooks at his finest. IMO, he's the first guy that should be mentioned in EVERY Miracle on Ice thread or post.
Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.
