They're personal favorites. I don't always go by who was the best. I love Art Monk but he's not my favorite.

I voted for Charlie Taylor, because, as NC43 put it:

But I hated not to vote for Monk.

And Bobby Mitchell, the Redskins first deep threat...in fact, half of the offense in his first year at Washington. Snead to Mitchell. And because he accepted the challenge of being the Redskins first black player, in spite of lunatic hostility from George Preston Marshall, but with the support of the Redskins players and all real fans.

(I'll put up a link to a fascinating article from an NFL history website that talks about Marshall, Mitchell, and the battle to integrate the Redskins.)

I would say Charlie Taylor, with Art Monk a very, very, close second.

As others had said, Taylor was the QB coach here during the time Monk played, and Taylor had alot to do in developing Monk.

My all-time fav would have to be Art Monk. Although I was too young to really remeber him in his prime, when I look at game film of him I am in total awe. Not only did he have great hands (obviously) but he was a great blocker and was not afraid to catch passed in the middle of the opponents defense.

WHY IN THE HELL IS HE NOT IN THE HALL!!!! :explode:

As of now, my favorite reciever is none other that Lavernous Coles. He kind of reminds me of Monk in the fact that he is not afraid to take a hit.

I love the posse. The posse was great. But I would have to disagree with the above statement. I would pick Charlie Taylor, Bobby Mitchell and Jerry Smith as the best trio ever. Heck, one year, they were first, second and fourth in the NFL in receiving! (Roy Jefferson was third, he was shortly to be a Redskin.) Two HOFers in that group. Jerry Smith should also be in the HOF too. He was the all time leading receiver for a tight end when he retired.

Agreed. Bobby Mitchell was the greatest athlete to ever put on a Redskins uniform. At any postion.

Yes (times three).

It took teams double and triple coverage to handle Mitchell, and when Graham converted Taylor to WR, it was like the Redskins had an unfair advantage with Jurgenson passing. (Of course, they had a disadvantage in that Graham didn't bother with a running game, or a line or a defense, but, hey, nobody's perfect! :lol:

)

Yes again on Jerry Smith. The best pass-catching TE ever. Certainly better than Bob Tucker from the Giants, who was a similar small TE.

Story from my Dad (repeated from an older thread): Sonny is broadcasting, a season that Allen has brought in Jean Fugett (or someone like that) to replace Jerry Smith as the starting TE. The Redskins are behind, and another announcer asks, "Sonny, what would you do in this situation?"

Sonny answered, "The first thing I'd do is get Jerry Smith in the game."
