ESPN on my campus

Post by Irn-Bru »

In my student news e-mail this morning:

Date: Mon, 14 Feb 2005 16:39:16 -0500
From: xxxxxxx
Subject: ESPN on Campus Today

ESPN is doing a show on the top 10 college rivalries in the US Divisions I-III. Calvin/Hope has been picked as one of the 10 rivalries and is the only Division III school to have been picked. ESPN will be on campus today, Tuesday, interviewing students and getting footage. As Calvin's community, let's make them feel welcome.

Too bad I'm already wearing one of my U of MD shirts. . . .

The Calvin / Hope basketball rivalry goes back to (I think) 1910. If the students at my school weren't such bad fans in general (they don't dress in school colors for games, the student section tends to be empty, they read newspapers in the stands during the game[!!], etc.) -- except for the one Hope game a year when everyone goes crazy -- I might actually care. But, coming from UMD, I know what true student fans are--and it definitely doesn't mean only getting hyped up for a single game out of the entire season.

Still, there is a lot of history there. Interesting that they picked this as one of the top 10 greatest rivalries.

That wouldn't stop a "true" fan... a "true" fan would paint "theHogs.net" on themselves and do a jig infront of the cameras... :-"

(ROLE REVERSAL)

Excuse me sir but this is not the talking smack forum. You could get away with a comment like that there, but not in a FAMILY FRIENDLY forum like The Lounge! ;-)

Homer: "No Flanders, it's a meeting of gay witches for abortion , you wouldn't be interested!"

. . .just to follow up.

I never saw them, which is understandable. Actually, I sort of saw them. On Tuesday morning I was playing in a chapel service, and for some reason or another one of their camera men was around, taking shots.

Don't know what that has to do with the Calvin/Hope rivalry, so I'll have to get my parents to tape the show whenever it airs. My guess is that they probably took upwards of a few hours of footage for the 20 seconds that they have planned for Calvin in that segment of the show.

. . .and that's about as exciting as things get around here sometimes. . .
