Emmitt Smith Retirement
Well, I am going to miss him. I loved the guy when he had a little Cardinal on his helmet.
I use to like him for the simple fact I liked his running style which was like Walter Payton... Not extremely powerul like Earl Campbell or fast like Barry Sanders, but just hitting the hole and coming out the other side.

i guess emmit didn't realize he was already retired. hopping around in a cardinals outfit 5 years past your prime hardly even counts as playing football.
i'm ashamed of all of you. how can you respect anyone that had anything to do with the evil cowboys organization?
no, emmit was not the greatest RB of all time. yes, he got the most yards, but it took him 13 years to do what barry sanders did in 10! which is not even to mention the fact that emmit had an outstanding line and barry always had a LOUSY line. it is an absolute insult and disgrace to say that he is even close to being as good as barry sanders.
he was a good running back, in his prime. it sickens me to even acknowledge that, but it is true. but he is in the top 15 at best, not the top 10, not the top 5, and not even close to #1.

This was not an acknowledgement for the Dallas Cowboys. It was nothing more than a salute and acknowledgement to a football player who was one of the greatest RB's to play the game. Just because he wore the dreaded star, that does not take away the IMPRESSIVE accomplishments he made on the field. Don't be ashamed of me, I love the Redskins, but without football there would be no teams to root for, and without great football players why root for football. I hate nothing more than the Cowgirls, but I respect and salute all the great players. To say that Emmit was not even in the top 10 you need to rethink your definition of greatness as it pertains to playing the game of football.

no one ever would have even heard of emmit smith if he had played on the lions instead of barry sanders, running behind a shoddy O-line. he would have been considered a good running back, maybe even a really good running back, perhaps on the level of a shaun alexander or so. but there is no way on earth he would be #1 in yards, there is no way he would be considered one of the all-time greats.
he is simply NOT.
he is simply NOT.
Emmitt Smith wasn't one of the best of all time?
Because Barry was better?
Sounds like you should be voting on the Hall of Fame ballots... you use the same criterion.
He is the only thing Cowboy that I have ever come close to respecting. He may have not been as skilled as Sanders... but he's a warrior, in fact, probably only 'Sweetness' and Jim brown were tougher RBs. The guy played against us when he was nearly dead a couple of times and still handed us out butts on a platter.
I will always agree that Barry was a better runner but IMO, I think saying that Emmitt isn't even a top 5 RB is pure venom and hatred talking... not football sense.
... but hey, you'll never catch me thinking ill of a Skins fan for saying anything derogatory about a Cowpuke.

I just know that I am glad he isn't running against the SKINS anymore cause like BH said,
He is definitely one of the best RBs that has played the game. Just wished he would have been a Redskin instead of Peon
Sanders.

For once I have to agree with Boss as much as it kills me to do so. but he made some very interesting points. plus people all ways say Emmitt benefited from having such a great offensive line.
But how about turning that around and saying the offensive line benefited from a great RB? it wouldn't be lying if that was said. but what is a lie is that Barry the hasbeen did not have a great line
That's just excuses because his O line were 7 time pro bowlers. just like claiming that Emmitt wasn't tough enough would be a lie, because he showed how tough he was the day
he seperated his shoulder.
In intense pain had to have his shoulder put in which hurts like hell. shoulder strapped in pain he single-handedly took over that game. pass catching run blocking being a reciever and runner out of the back field
No running back has ever done that ever that shows you how tough he is. not to mention the time he played with a concussion.
so your idiotic arguement is like me saying Mike Irvin is better then Jerry Rice. and given some lame arguement as to why he is better
so don't quit your day job Die

I have complete respect for Emmitt Smith. He was the only player on that Dallas team that I truly respected for both his character and his ability. He was definitely one of the best backs ever. I think Sanders was the best, but Sweetness and Emmitt were right there behind him. Whether he had a great line or not doesn't matter. He ran the yards and they all counted. Longevity also has to count.
The reason I respect him is because he's a class act. Among a team of drug users, criminals and flash, he just ran the football and didn't get involved in all that. He did it extremely well too.

Well actually... he didn't break any rules... like you did. He didn't call anyone names... like you did. He didn't abbreviate a cuss word in the PG forums... like you did.
So who's the one that shouldn't be allowed to voice an opinion here?
I try to let everyone have their say here... regardless of what it is... as long as they do it within the rules.
... and you haven't. So why should YOU be allowed to continue to voice YOUR opinions here?

In Darrell Green's last game....How many yards did Emmitt need to get for another 1000 yard season?
Was it 26 yards? Or fewer then 26 yards?
I can't remember for sure. I do know that he got ruled that day! He barely got one yard a carry. One yard a carry!!!! Noone blocked for him that game. That just goes to show you how good he was when noone blocked for him.

It didn't help that he only got 10-15 carries in a game we were winning of close in the entire time.Redskins Rule wrote:In Darrell Green's last game....How many yards did Emmitt need to get for another 1000 yard season?

He got screwed over his last two games in Dallas. That's a fact.

uh, you weren't winning that game. you lost. we won.
also, part of the reason he only got 10-15 carries is because emmit was only getting 1 yard a carry. think about it- you don't keep trying to run when you're getting stuffed like that. but if he had been going for 3-5 yards, you stick with it. he didn't earn more carries in that game.
now, i will say this was clearly way past his prime. in his heyday, he probably would've at least been able to run for 2 yards per carry with a bad o-line. hahhaha. hey maybe even 3. he was a very good running back (sickens me to say that but it's true) but really there is no way he would ever be mentioned in the same breath as barry sanders and i stick by that.

i wasn't talking about two games, i was talking about the last game vs. the redskins.
frankly i couldn't care less what happened with him in the game before that. maybe he got screwed, maybe he ran for a million touchdowns. but the next week, against the redskins, he needed like 26 yards and got about 15.
