My Draft moves

Post by C'fieldSkin »

I'm new so don't tear into me too bad. I think we should definately trade Rod Gardner and replace him in the first round with a reciever like Braylon Edwards, Mike Williams, or Troy Williamson. Then trade into the 2nd and select Corey Webster. He has the physical tools, but he needs some coaching and I think Gregg Williams can provide it. In the 3rd we should take Ben Wilkerson from LSU at center or Chris Canty at DE. In the 4th, taking into account who we get in the 3rd, either a Jovan Haye or George Gause at DE or Junius Coston at C. In the later rounds Demarcus Ware an undersized end that would be a great situational rusher, in the mold of Robert Mathis.

Welcome C'field! You've done your homework on some interesting picks! I think we'd be lucky to have all those picks. With Free Agency up in the air and the salary cap... it's going to be very interesting for the next few months. Then the Draft comes in...
Glad you're here!

Thanks for the welcome. Wishful thinking I know. I just don't want the free agency spending too wild. I'd rather rebuild through the draft.

You seem educated on the subject, anyone who wants us to draft a WR is A-OK with me :)

Who exactly is Corey Webster though? Defensive lineman? Cornerback?

Corey Webster is a big cornerback with good speed and awesome hands (used to be a wideout), and has potential to be an elite corner. I'd love to see us get him but I dont know how we can get a 2nd round pick??

Corey Webster is a player with more potential for the future than he is an immediate impact player. He's kind of raw and though he was the top rated guy as a junior he fell because of an off year and some injuries. I think he will still be there, as of right now there are four or five corners in front of him.

Well that sounds nice, I like Smoot, but he is pretty small...

I was suggesting Webster while assuming Smoot was moving on, I like Smoot as well.

I'm opposed to the idea of picking up any more situational pass rushers. If we need 3rd down speed demons, we can just put Lavar and Clemons in at end, and then utilize our depth at the LB position. It doesn't make sense to me to draft and undersized DE, when you essentially already have a couple. I hope Ben Wilkerson will still be there when we pick during round three!

Webster played hurt at LSU all season too. With some time to heal up, he'll be more impressive. He's a pro - no doubt. We still have a chance to sign Smoot with the Con Men Postons out of the picture.

Great post, thanks! You guys reelly do your homework. (So I don't have to.)

I wonder what the odds of our trading our 9 pick for a later first rounder and something in the second round. I agree that we should really try to build more through the draft rather than free agency.

My 2 cents worth...

Trade our #9 pick and Gardner to San Diego for their 2nd 1st round pick (#24), their 2nd round pick (#61), and their 5th round pick (#?).

Redskins then have the following picks and draft the following:

1st round (#24): Elton Brown, OG, UVA
2nd round (#61): Alex Smith, TE, Stanford
3rd round (?): Ben Wilkerson, C, LSU
4th round (?): Chris Canty, DE, UVA
5th round (?): Brandon Jacobs, RB Southern Illinois
6th round (?): ST player
7th round (?): ST player

Again I agree with Chaddukes. That is why I think we trade down and get someone like Spears from LSU (every down DE that can stop the run and get to the QB) with size. Then we can still a WR or Center.

Remember folks we do not have as many holes as you think. Just look at our injuries at some positions.

According to scout.com (link below) Brandon Jacobs is from Auburn, obviously, behind Brown and Williams. I can't find a thing about him, he's not even on the Auburn roster. Was he hurt all year or did he get booted for not making grades? If he can't make grades at Auburn, an SEC school, forget it -- we don't want him. He won't be smart enough to learn our plays...

The only RB I could find from S Illi is Terry Jackson and he's only 190 lbs, what do we need him for?

Besides your choice of RB, I like what you posted but not sure we can make it happen...If we could get the big back from the Citadel instead, great. Think we should try to find a late round QB, or bag it and wait a year?

RIC, C'field has been here for awehile.

Webster... Alright. I am glad he is leaving; one less good LSU player to deal with.
