Dan Snyder: Jerk? Yes or No
Personally I think he is a jerk and is making a big error in judgement.

What Dan Snyder hasn't figured out is being a football owner is about prestige. It isn't about making tons of money. Most of the owners in the league already made their millions somewhere else. Owning a football team is like owning a yacht. It is generally for flash and not great return.
Mr Snyder stop taxing your loyal fan base. You are lucky that you own the Redskins and not some other franchise. You have the best fans and you rape them.
Stop it!

Sure am glad we have him as our owner. I think this was not such a smooth move, but I'm not going to blame this guy for everything bad that happens with our front office!
Thanks for getting Joe back and getting our team back on track!

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
Bad move. Snyder doesn't know how to appeal to people who don't make much money. I guess he thinks all ticket holders are the same.
It's sad and depressing that he tries to make more money (especially when he DOESN'T need it) and at the same time makes people lose money (or in this case, tickets).

I think it means the only credit card you can use for season tix purchases will be the redskins CC. Otherwise you pay cash or check.

I hate the man. I used to dislike him, but week three against the Cowboys, I decided I hate him. Me, and two friend went to the Dallas game. We bought the tickets on e-bay. It came to about $220 per ticket. They were first row, endzone. It seemed worth it.
But they were not first row, the ticket says ROW 1, but thery are actaully row 4. Snyder and his "dream seats". AKA seats for rich people that know people. I wanted to kill the man right there. I vowed to punch him in the face if I ever meet him.
So I think you can figure out how I voted.

I can't believe anybody is actually supporting this move. This might be one of the biggest owner middle finger to the fans EVER.
If he wants to score some more profits with MasterCard, then fine. But how about some incentive for the fans or something? 10% off your season tix if you use this MasterCard. Figure out the math and make it work, Dan. You're the hotshot business man.

Season Ticket: $2,350 . . . Redskins MasterCard: Priceless
By Tony Kornheiser

Maybe if the Redskins were like the Patriots, and contending for the Super Bowl every year, this credit card thing wouldn't seem so smarmy. Or maybe if the Redskins were like the Packers, and making the playoffs every year, this credit card thing wouldn't seem quite so snarky. Heck, maybe if the Redskins were simply finishing above .500 once in a while this credit card thing wouldn't seem so totally cheesy.
But the Redskins aren't winning.
Year after year, they aren't winning.
And while I'm not for a second questioning the owner's desire to win or his commitment to win, it just seems like this is not the time to tell your loyal fans that they'd better use a certain kind of credit card to pay for their season tickets.
With a winning team you could say, "Ahhh, that's just business."
With a losing team you say, "That's crapola."
See, now it's not only that you have to get your money to the team months and months before the season starts (so the team has access to your money long before you get any product in return) -- now there's a specific credit card you have to use to get it there so early. A Redskins Extra Points MasterCard, which allows you to redeem those points you accumulate for your charges to acquire a bunch of Redskins gifts. As in whoop-de-damn-do.
Of course, you can still pay by cash or check -- at least for this season. But if you choose to charge your tickets, you must use this specific credit card. The Redskins say this is going to "streamline" the ticketing process. And, okay, if it makes the Redskins a little extra money on the side because of a sweetheart deal with the credit card company, what's it to ya, huh?
It's perfectly legal to do this, to specify the method of payment for something. There are plenty of businesses that won't take credit cards at all; they insist on cash or check -- plenty more that won't take certain types of credit cards.
There are plenty of teams that partner up with specific credit card companies, and offer merchandise, like team jackets and T-shirts and sweatshirts as incentives to use that kind of card. Colleges do this all the time, too. You regularly get mail from your school urging you to show your school spirit by signing up for one credit card or another.
But if you want to buy a decal from your college, you're not usually prohibited from using another brand of credit card besides the one your alma mater is in business with. Usually, any kind of credit card is good.
Not any more with the Redskins. They are committed to this one card now. And, consequently, so are you. Their partners are now your partners. Mi casa es su casa.
Now maybe that's just shrewd business. Maybe shoe-horning every seat possible into that stadium is just shrewd business. Maybe selling obstructed-view seats is just shrewd business. And charging an exorbitant amount for parking (because there are no places to park close to the stadium) is just shrewd business. I'll say this, Dan Snyder is a heckuva businessman. He paid more than anybody ever for an NFL team, and he's turning a big profit. Clearly, he's a marketing genius. And let me say again that I think he's been putting his money out there trying like crazy to acquire the best talent on the field and on the sideline. Portis, Spurrier, Gibbs, Coles, Deion, Bruce Smith, Jeremiah Trotter -- oh, he is trying his darndest.
But for me what this comes down to is a taste call. People who buy season tickets are real fans -- particularly people who buy season tickets for a team that hasn't won squat in the last decade or so. And now it seems that being a real fan isn't enough. Now they don't just want your loyalty and your money -- now they want a specific kind of your money. In return, you won't necessarily get a good team, but you may be able to get enough points to get a seat upgrade. Maybe from obstructed to clear.
If the team was winning, this might not be so hard to swallow. It's amazing how winning can be the spoonful of sugar that makes the medicine go down.
But now it seems small and petty, and designed to go just one way: theirs.
One part shrewd business, three parts crapola.

As long as the ticket waiting list is 8+ years... he can and will do whatever he wants with years of guaranteed money. Is it right? No. Will he do it anyways? Yup. If he's bickering with the NFL about profit and revenue sharing, he's going to make his money in other places anyway he can. He didn't make his millions from sitting on anything. Loopholes are what business men like Snyder are all about.
I really don't think it's THAT big an issue. How many Visa commercials do you guys see where they say "they might let you in with blah blah blah, but they don't take American Express." It's the same deal with Visa and the Patriots.

I think it is a salary cap move, more revenue gives the NFL a reason to raise the cap.

I don't like it, but...
you've got to somewhat admire his drive to succeed be it the business world or owning the Redskins. His "wring every cent possible out of the Redskins" philosophy is part of both of those desires, I believe. I do believe he wants to turn the Redskins into a consistent winner and he will get it done. Now, would I enjoy sitting down and drinking a beer with him? Probably not, because he comes across to me like an overbearing, arrogant jerk, but I can appreciate and respect the success he's achieved in his life.

I think you have to look at two other aspects to this move. I really don't agree with it, but i can understand it. A couple of nights ago i heard somebody say that part of this was to detract the out of town season ticket buyers which give up alot of their seats during the season, hence the CRAPLOAD of EAGLES, COWBOYS fans. Secondly there are alot of Redskins type incentives with the card, ie. travel with the team, tickets, dream seats. There is a reason that this team has jumped to #1 on the most valuable American sports franchise. He is not a stupid man, and honestly, it really could be so much worse. It could be alot worse. We all know once we get there and we know where there is, all of this will be a mere forgotten thing. Winning cures all, and its just a matter of time.

well said
I voted no. As long as DS continues to let Gibbs have all control and pay players, I've got no problem with him. He won me over for life in bringing Gibbs back out of retirement.
Fine move -- great persuasion -- to bring Gibbs back to the Redskins.
This credit card, though, is a low-life move. You don't enfuriate your customer base just to make an extra dollar. And I mean, really, a dollar.
The bank that backs the card takes about 10%. As the "sponsor", he gets maybe 1%. So that's about $2.30 per fan, at 90,000 fans, is about $200,000, or about 1/10 the signing bonus he gave to Darnerian McCants, who might never play for the Redskins again.
A cheesy, bush-league, move.

Snyder is only a jerk because he makes more money than all of us.... In fact, most of you are jerks because you probably make more money than me....
But one day... I'll be Daddy Warbucks and I'll be the jerk and get my own "Jerk or Not Poll" on theHogs.net...
It's gonna be awesome...
