Whatever. The "war" part ended a while ago too, but a good, good friend just got sent home in pieces.
I'll be at the funeral Saturday.
I still support my President, my country and our troops.
After all, that's what Kenny was doing over there. I owe him that.

All I'm saying is that supporting a war and supporting the troops are completely seperate. This started off as a political thread and tcwest10 continued it when he expressed his support for the war. I truly am sorry for your loss tcwest10, but the said truth is that it is one of more than a thousand since the war began. The president that you are pledging your support to sent this country to war under false pretenses and far too many young American men and women have sacrificed their lives. And I cannot express this deeply enough. My personal opinion is that patriotism is not supporting everything that the president/government says and does. It is standing up for what you believe is right even if it contradicts the actions of the government. I'm sorry if I have offended you by expressing my opinion, but I don't think that believing that our troops should come home in any way dishonors your the life of your friend.

I'm so tired of this statement. As a member of the military how can you support me, but not support what I do????

As I have said to many here before you...thanks but no thanks I don't need your support. If you saw what I saw everyday you would kiss the feet of our military!!

TC we have already talked you know how I feel, our coutry can NEVER repay the debt we owe to Kenny...screw all these ballplayers and ant-war folks...Kenny and those like him are my hero's!!

Patrick, I think what everyone is trying to convey is that this thread isn't a political thread. This thread is moreso dedicated to TC and the passing of a loved one.

Your opinion is just as valid as anyone else but this wasn't the proper time nor place to do it IMHO. Feel free to spark up a new thread anytime you want but lets keep this one for TC.

i have the utmost respect for tc, and despite the fact that we're both just words behind a username, i've grown fond enough of him (as most of us have) to feel pain for him and sorry for his loss.

however, chris, with all respect due to tc, this thread is not dedicated to him nor the passing of his friend. it is, as the topic states, dedicated to discussing the end to the seach for weapons of mass destruction in iraq.

and while i'm at it, what we're really trying to say is that patrick's opinion is not as valid as everyone else's, chris, because he disapproves of the war and our president, which means he's an anti-american, pacifist, tree-hugging, civilian commie bastard, and he has no right to tell us how he feels that he can despise the war and still support the troops by wanting them to come home safely. let's not kid ourselves.

I'm not trying to kid myself or anyone else. When I made that post it was my 2nd and I was just reading the replies. I had forgotten that Jake had orginally started the thread and not TC. That is why I made the statement I did.

Well, TC (the old topic thief himself) greatly appreciates the groundswell of emotion and sympathy, and he apologizes for taking the thread out of context. He also apologizes for referring to himself in the third person, which seemed like a cool idea, but looks stupid on the screen, so he's knocking that off, right now.
Busted by RiC, once again.
Anyway, the funeral was Saturday, in the snow. Everybody was there. I laid low, since I didn't know his girl and her family at all. The military did a fine job for a send-off, as they always do. Some local pols were there, shaking hands and kissing babies (you know what I mean.). It reminded me of how they always send the Vice President to disaster areas to look down from the helicopter and grimly shake his head from the safety of the bird.
At the end of the day, a good man is in the ground. He felt he was doing something that was worth doing, although in all honesty, most twenty-year olds are still pretty sure they're immortals. His wife spoke haltingly, but strongly; Her support for our efforts has not waned. Had it sunk in yet, that her husband isn't coming home ? I don't know. I do know this: There wasn't a single person in that building who walked out of there thinking a life was wasted.
That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
