Gibbs says stay in football will be short

Post by Skinsfan55 »

http://sports.espn.go.com/rpm/news/story?id=1975954

"My time in football will be short,'' Gibbs said Tuesday during a stop by the NASCAR media tour at Joe Gibbs Racing. "Hopefully, we'll be here forever. If we don't win a few more games next year, my time in football will be real short.''

I thought he was here for the long haul, all 5 years... :?

i just was goin to post that... but it already has

http://www.the-hogs.net/forum/viewtopic. ... 0827&sid=2

but if you read he says something like " I'm just trying to get the skins back to a winning tradition, maybe it will take all 5 years, maybe more?". so i think he'll stay until we get our pride back, and then turn it over to Greg.

I also heard that after he said it will be shorter if he does not win more games...he chuckled....meaning that Dan Snyder will fire him.

Dont worry..he is much to loyal to the Redskins and will had the keys over to GW when get gets the team back on track.

i know you guys may not want to hear this but i want gibbs around only until williams want to be a head coach. he is a great DC and i think he will learn what it take to be a head coach. the skins can't EVER lose this guy.
May #21 never be worn again by another Redskin but may every Redskin play like they are wearing #21 on their backs.

I hear that. I think we will be much better next year and finally get to the playoffs and all of this Gibbs leaving early stuff will not be heard. He will just hand it over in another 3 yrs

I hope Joe Gibbs is around a couple more years atleast, I think he will turn this thing around soon, I certainly agree that we need to keep Greg Williams around for a long time, Greg has all the tools to be a great head coach, I think as far as coaching goes we will be in good hands for quite awhile.

I never really thought about it until patjam brought it up but GW would be a sweet head coach after joe. I mean if he can make our offense as dominating as our defense was this past year, we could make some headway. Now not to say that I dont love what Gibbs is doing, and not also to say that I dont like what GW's doing on D. I just think that the comment patjam made deserved a little recognition, nicely done.

They just talked about what Gibbs said on PTI, Wilbon said that Gibbs was just joking, and that the media blew it way out of proportion.

And so is Chad Pennington's rotator cuff...

Back to the topic... this is the media (ESPN!!!!) blowing a story out of proportion after taking a quote out of context.

To quote Welch, here is what happened:

welch wrote:
What does it mean when he says "If we don't win a few more games next year, my time here will be really short"

Does that mean if the Skins dont win more games next season, he'll break his 5-yr contract by leaving earlier?

No.

It's just Gibbs poking fun at himself, saying, "If we don't win more games, the Redskins might fire me". As if Daniel Snyder did not make up for all of his bobbles by presuading the greatest living football coach to un-retire and come back to the Redskins. As if Snyder would fire Gibbs...

Gibbs is just joking. You folks need to refer to a better source than ESPN to find FACTUAL information. This is the part of ESPN (about 90% of it) that really gets on my nerves. They make stories out of a lie and nothing comes out of it.

Hey, Smizz...Long time, no smell. :)
No need to dig up Lombardi. Got three reminders of him glistening in a display at Redskin Park.

Yea great idea.....Overpay for someone else.those contract have worked out so good for the skins. Alot of improvment i see in you guys.

Do you think you can start to expect a couple more wins next year or do you have some other over the hill Vets who are looking for a MAX contract??

The Ny Jets have moved on without those players and you guys are still waiting for them to show up. What it must be like to watch the playoff's each year with no real hope of getting there.

The won't. Oh and How has Chad Morton done coming out of the back field? i remember how goo dhe was gonna be for you guys .

Im sure we can expect you guys to go after Abe...then again we would be more than glad to take those 2 1st rd picks from you too.

Do us a favor and slouch down a bit in your chair at the Superbowl because you'll be watching it from the stands just like we are.

Did it hurt watching your kicker choke in the Steelers game? Then again, it wasn't all of his fault. Herm should have done something to get the ball closer to the field goal. What the hell was that call about? It pushed you guys back a couple of yards.

The media always does that, they always try spin stuff around. Gibbs is here for the long haul and wants and will do anything to turn the Redskins around. Remember he loves this franchise, he would not use it to dry out and than leave.
