Granted our OL needs help to give PR time, but I'm don't believe Coles is our deep threat. Yea, he's fast, but he's more of our possession receiver - for starters, he's too short. I'd like to see him #2 behind the likes of Muhammed or Moss. I don't like Moss as a person, but would love to see if Gibbs could turn him into a team first player. Muhammed....why would anyone be upset if we landed him. Except for the contract demands, this guy is an absolute stud that would make our offense better immediately. Both of these guys would.

Gardner is not the answer and Jacobs is still WIP and not a #1 either.

Lastly, if Coles is going to have surgery, get it done already. I for one and damn tired about hearing about the toe. Get it fixed and rehab to be ready for camp. ](*,)

My My 2 cents

I may be crazy too... but I agree...

The problem is we don't have a true number 1 reciever... we have two decent #2 receivers... (coles and gardner)...

Coles is not the type of WR that changes the game or commands double teams... when have you ever heard other teams say we have to stop coles and roll the safety to his side... they don't.... coles is decent but not great... I am not advocating getting rid of him... but we need to shake up the WR corp... stay away from moss... and you don't want burress... (we already have gardner) they both drop balls..the only FA WR I like is Patten... but he is too similar to Coles... small decent... but not a #1

get rid of gardner and start (a healthy) coles and jacobs... draft a WR... (just remember it is a crap shoot and rookie WR don't pan out...) it takes 3 years...

upgrade the damn line.....
See right now I'm on lettuce... Pretty soon I'll be on fries... After that.. The grill... And after that... Comes Assistant. Manager.... and That's When the Big Bucks roll in!

Start with the OL. The receivers could be better, but start with the line.

I disagree. What OL is worth a #9 pick? You can easily get them in Free Agency or the later rounds. Clearly, the glaring need is pass rushing DE, a dominating TE, and a "playmakig" WR.

you guys are crazy if you don't think Coles is a top NFL WR. He's not a #1 receiver? How do you figure that? He's got blazing speed, runs great routes and has very good hands. He also holds onto the ball when hit. The one and ONLY reason he's been so mediocre is because of his toe. He simply doesn't have the acceleration and cutting ability he had before the injury. He needs to get the surgery and have a full recovery.

Too small? Ever heard of Marvin Harrison? Arguably the best WR in the entire NFL...How about Issac Bruce, Torry Holt, Hines Ward, Darrell Jackson? None above 6 foot. Coles is 5'11. Does an inch make that much difference?

New England doesn't have a starting WR over 6 foot, and they don't seem to have any problems...

Coles is an excellent receiver when healthy. Let's all hope for surgery and a full recovery. That will tremendously help our WR corps next season all by itself...

We need another receiver with Rod and McCants likely gone. As I've said before, Burress, Mushim, Patten and Porter(didn't realize he was a FA until now) are all viable options. Burress and Mushim would be great #1/#2's and Patten and Porter would be great #2's. Patten may develope into a #1 WR as well.

Like many have said though. The most important positions we need to solidify are the trenches. Our OLine is pretty close, but we need a center badly. Defensively need a good DE badly.

I have faith that Joe will get all of this taken care of in the offseason without a hitch. Can't wait for next season :D

Good post. I agree on the Coles' size - that he may not be too small....yes I did bring that up. What I think we agree on as well is that he desperately needs to have the surgery and needs a complimentary receiver or two - to be a legitimate #1, that I agree he can and should be.

Even if that was true, which IMO it isn't. We still need to fix the OL 1st. We could have T.O, Moss, Boston, Rice, Monk, Clark, Super Man, and some cheese running routes for us but if Patrick doesn't have the time to get them the ball it won't matter.

We need to get a good line formed before we do anything too drastic.
