Smoot?

Post by SkinFan 0-16 or 16-0 »

I just saw on the Front Page that Smoot is restricted. Ithought he was unrestrited. Does this mean that we compensation if he leaves.

This means that it will limit smoot's mobility on the market if e is unsigned. Which increases the chances of him staying.

Well that's great! So even if we can't resign him we get a 2nd round pick at the worst right. We could do the full tender and get a first. This would also make it unlikely that he leaves in the first place. Please correct me if I am wrong on the whole draft picks thing.

Hey, by the way, Deion Sanders is a free agent this offseason. We should sign him! -drinking :evil: :explode: :thump: ;furious;

Free Agency Definitions

Unrestricted Free Agents (UFA)
Players with four years or more of NFL experience who are free to sign with any team. If they sign with another team, the new team does not have to provide the previous team with any compensation.

Restricted Free Agents (RFA)
Players with three years of NFL experience who can negotiate with any team for a period of 60 days beginning around March 1. However, his current team has the right to match any offer to retain rights to the player. If the team elects not to meet the offer, the player goes to the team that signed him to an offer sheet, but the new team must give the old team draft picks as compensation. The draft pick compensation varies depending upon the offer the old club gives the player prior to becoming a restricted free agent.

Exclusive-Rights Free Agents (EFA)
Players with two or fewer years of experience who are not free to negotiate outside of their team providing the team makes a minimum qualifying offer to them. If the player does not receive an offer from his current team, he becomes an unrestricted free agent.

Franchise Free Agents (FFA)
Teams can select one player as their "Franchise" player. Current team can match any offer the player receives, but if they don't they receive two first-round draft picks as compensation from the new team. If the player does not switch teams, he receives a 1-year offer from his current team equal to at least the average of the top 5 players at his position, but no signing bonus. However, the one-year offer is guaranteed whether he makes the team or not, providing the team with an incentive to sign the player to a long-term deal. The team can negotiate a long-term deal with the player after July 15th and still have a franchise tag option available to them the following year. If they sign the player to a long-term contract before July 15th, the team loses the franchise tag option for the length of the contract or until the player leaves the team -- whichever occurs first.

Transitional Free Agents (TFA)
In any year that the team has the option to select a "Franchise" player, they can opt to make a one individual a "Transition" player instead. The team can opt to match any offer the player receives, but if they choose not to match, they receive a first-round draft pick as compensation from the new team. The player is guaranteed the better of either the average of the top 10 at his position or a 20% increase if his rights are retained by his old team.
