Art Monk Petition

Post by admin »

Petition scripts can be a little messy, and we just wanted to povide somewhere for people to provide their support for Mr. Monk. This forum is for one purpose, and one purpose only... to declare your support for the induction of Art Monk into the Hall of Fame. This forum is not for discussion of the topic, it is strictly for you to sign our petition to have Art Monk enshrined.

All other posts will be deleted, so please just post in this thread if you agree and wish to sign the petition. We would appreciate it if you would just post your name, your location, the pro football team that you are a fan of, and 50 words or less as to why you support Art's induction. We will forward the thread contents to some of the writers who vote on the inductions. Thank-you for your support.

I think that Art Monk deserves to be inducted into pro football's Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

Art Monk, unlike many other players, has never been a self-promoter, and many have overlooked his rightly deserved spot in the hall becase of it. Any careful look at his career achievements, statistics, and off-field accomplishments is more than enough to know that he deserves a spot in Canton.

Art Monk deserves to be in the NFL Hall of Fame.

Monk was the leading receiver -- deep, middle, and short -- on a Redskins team that went to the Super Bowl four times, and won three of them. Monk was the most dangerous player in the Redskins offense for twelve seasons.

Art Monk broke the single season record for recptions; borke the care record for receptions; broke the record for consecutive games with a rection.

In addition to all this, Monk was a model of quiet, absolute, dedication to his task and to his team.

Art Monk deserves to be in the hall of fame.

He will be in the top 5 or 10 in every receiving category. Plus, he played in a vertical offense, where passes come by play action or intermediate-deep routes. Jerry Rice and Sterling Sharpe had a lot of those receptions because of the West Coast offense, which focuses on short passes. Art Monk not only caught 100 receptions in a season, he did it with 3 WR with Clark and Sanders. Monk was ol'reliable and he should be in the hall because he was a great player and was T.O. at the time.

Monk's record speaks for itself...it doesn't matter what I say about him. He deserves to be enshrined ASAP!

Art Monk should be in the Hall of Fame. This omission has been due to a few sportswiters misguided perceptions.

Art was a great receiver at a time when receivers were not that important in offenses and should not be caompared to current receivers but against his peers.

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

This is long overdue - Art Monk has fulfilled the requirements to be in the HOF and more. He has the stats, he has the rings, and he did it all in a manner befitting a true professional and team player. Don't sweep him under the rug again this year - put him where rightfully belongs, THE HALL OF FAME.

It is insane that the one time leading receiver in the most the most dominant catagories does not own a gold jacket. Sure Art Monk, was not flashy like Mike Irvin or a bulldozer like Kellen Winslow Sr., but he is like Tom Brady, a winner. If you needed clutch yards, Art Monk was there. If you needed a deep bomb Art Monk was there. And if you wanted a true athlete who respected the NFL for what it is, Art Monk was there. But if a fan asks if one of the best recivers of All-Time is enshrined at the Hall of Fame, he is not there.

Art Monk belongs in the NFL Hall of Fame

Post by Redskin in Canada »

Art Monk belongs in the NFL Hall of Fame (HOF).

Art Monk belongs in the HOF due to the quality of his game and the magnitude of some of his best known statistics:

1) 12,721 Receiving Yards (#9 all time, eight years after retirement)
2) 940 Receptions ( was #1, is now #5 eight years after retiring)
3) 68 Receiving Touchdowns (still in top 30, all time)
4) 224 Games played
5) Caught at least one pass in 183 consecutive games (once a record)
6) Helped Washington to three SB victories in four appearances.
7) Three consecutive Pro Bowl Selections
8) First to record 106 receptions in one season in 1984, a record that stood for eight years.
9) First to catch at least one pass in 164 consecutive games
10) First to catch more than 900 passes.
11) Caught 58 passes as a rookie, unanimous All-Rookie Selection
12) Redskins 1984 MVP
13) 50 or more reception in a season 9 times
14) 1,000 or more yards receiving in a season 5 times

But he belongs in the Hall of Fame also as a player that dignified the game through its conduct. At a time when business tends to dominates all aspects of modern sports, a player such as Art Monk tought a lesson of humbleness, character and dedication as an example to generations of past, present and future players and football fans.

I think that Art Monk deserves to be inducted into Pro Football's Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio because it is long overdue (Lofton and Stallworth are already in). During his career, He helped his team to three SB victories in four appearances. He was the first player to catch more than 900 passes, first to catch 106 passes in a single season, and first with at least one catch in 178 consecutive games Still holds the club record for catches in a season (106) and for passes caught in a game (13, twice).

Most Hall of Fame Receivers will have a Hall of Fame Quarterback somewhere in their career. Art Monk went from playing with Joe Theismann to Jay Schroeder to Doug Williams to Stan Humphries to Mark Rypien.

The numbers don’t lie and Mr. Monk has never done anything to put the NFL in a bad light at any point during or after his career.

Art Monk wasn't just the greatest receiver when I was growing up. He was the greatest role model also. Who else were we supposed to look up to? Dexter Manley? Lawrence Taylor? Please!!

Monk stats speak for themselves. He had a long career full of accomplishment. If my Cowboy buddies say he should be in, and they do ;-)

Without a doubt Art Monk is a true HOF, and if he isn't, then Canton should close their doors to everyone. In an era where I grow increasingly tired of pro sports because of players like Randy Moss, we need more great players to know that you can be professional and still receive the accolades and respect. It is simply a travesty that a man who was the absolute best at his position statistically is not recognized for his accomplishments simply because some fat pimply faced geek sports writers (who by the way NEVER played any sport let alone football) think they know more that NFL players, coaches, and fans.

That Art Monk is not already in the Hall of Fame is a shame. His stat's are better then most of the WR's already in the Hall. I have never heard a legitimate reason why Mr. Monk has not been inducted to the HOF. Please do the right thing and put him in.
