Phillip Rivers to Dallas

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Phillip Rivers to Dallas

Post by John Manfreda »

I heard on ESPN the Cowboys are intersted in trading for him. I find it hard to believe but that would be awsome Phillip Rivers is terrible. I would love it if they got Rivers.

Ah, but are the Chargers interested in trading Rivers to Dallas?

Dude, are you crazy? Dallas getting Rivers would be horrible. Rivers is freakin' awesome. Do you know anything about him? The answer is no. Rivers is a winner. He is smart, big, strong, mature, dedicated, accurate, and tough. The Chargers would be insane to trade him. That blows my mind that you can say he is terrible.

I thought they already got their quarterback of the future. They aquired him from the Yankees.......I think it was the Yankees. Anyways, this guy is supposed to be good. He can throw a football about as hard and as far as the great Brett Favre. :)

I don't know why they would want Rivers after they got him. :hmm:

given that henson moved up and down the qb depth chart like a yoyo last season, i wouldn't be surprised if dallas pulled this off.

Rivers is horrible, he couldn't even beat Maryland a so so team. He throws side arm and has no arm strength at all. His mechanics are terrible, Dallas aquiring him would be great. He is not going to be any good. He held out also which shows all cares about is the money.

Rivers is a going to be a great NFL QB and it will suck REALLY BAD if he ends up in Dallas. He does throw side arm but he is extremely accurate. He didn't benefit from a good O-line at NC State and was still awesome. He is the real deal.

OVERVIEW
The second-leading passer in NCAA history with 13,484 career passing yards — breaking school and Atlantic Coast Conference records — he also set an NCAA record with 51 career starts at quarterback Rivers finished second in NCAA history with 13,582 career yards of total offenseHe tied for fifth in NCAA history with 95 career touchdown passes and also broke school and ACC career records for passing attempts (1,710), pass completions (1,147), touchdowns responsible for (112), 300-yard passing games ( 18 ) and 400-yard passing games (7) … Philip started all 51 games (including 2000-01 bowls) of his four years and threw for at least 100 yards in every contest while posting a 34-17 career record as the starter … He is the first quarterback in ACC history — and the seventh in the history of the NCAA — to throw for 3,000 yards in three different seasons He completed 110 of 161 passes in four bowl games for 1,202 yards, 10 touchdowns, three interceptions and rushed for 65 yards … His jersey number 17 was retired before his last home game (Nov. 22, 2003 vs. Maryland) … The most decorated passer in school annals, he also excelled in the classroom, graduating with a degree in business (Dec. 18, 2003), four days before suiting up for the final time for the Wolfpack.
ANALYSIS
Positives: Has a tall, linear build with adequate body thickness and good size for his position … Shows good arm strength and velocity … Smart athlete who makes proper judgments (rarely throws into traffic) … Has great poise and pocket presence; he will stand tall and deliver under pressure … Takes control in the huddle and is well-respected by his teammates … Displays above-average ball placement in the short-area passing game and throws a very catchable ball, knowing exactly when to zip the pigskin and when to show touch … Has a natural feel for when he needs to slide out of the pocket and avoid the pass rush … Always seems to be in sync with his receivers, doing an excellent job in timing his tosses and anticipating when to hit his targets in stride … Has a keen understanding of the offense, keeping his head on a swivel as he checks down the line … Vocal leader who works hard in the weight room and practices … Highly competitive type who is not afraid to "mix it up" when defenders get overaggressive … Has the body strength to fight off pressure and get free from the blitz … More comfortable in the short-to-intermediate passing game, displaying incredible accuracy … Not fast, but can buy time with his feet and maintains his accuracy throwing on the move (his precision allows him to squeeze the ball into tight areas) … Will need mechanical refinement, but much like Brett Favre, this kid is a flat-out winner.
Negatives: Won't ever hurt you by running with the ball, but has enough foot quickness and hip swerve to elude the rush and throw on the move … Needs to work on his foot quickness in his drops, but has made steady improvement in recent years … Throws the ball with a sidearm motion, but he can improvise and make plays with his creativity … Will struggle with his long tosses, as the ball will sail and hang on him (his best way to get the ball deep is through an awkward wind-up delivery) … His unorthodox style sees him keep the ball at his waist, displaying a low release, but he has good timing.
AGILITY TESTS
5.08 in the 40-yard dash … 375-pound bench press … 290-pound power clean … 33-inch vertical jump … 9-foot-8 broad jump … 32¼-inch arm length … 9¼-inch hands … Right-handed.
HIGH SCHOOL
Attended Athens (Ala.) High, playing football for his father, coach Steve Rivers … Hit on 109 of 195 passes for 2,025 yards and 15 touchdowns as a senior while also seeing action at free safety … Named Alabama player of the year … Graduated in December 1999 with a 3.7 grade-point average and enrolled at North Carolina State in time to compete in 2000 spring drills.
PERSONAL
Graduated in December 2003 with a degree in business … Married his high school sweetheart; wife's name is Tiffany … Couple has a child, Halle, born on July 6, 2002 … Born Dec. 8, 1981 … Resides in Athens, Ala.

if anything (and it's a big if), the chargers might think about trading brees...but it won't be to dallas. I see Miami putting a good bid for brees and taking cedric benson in the draft. however i live in san diego and spanos is adament, saying brees isn't going anywhere, and there is no way that rivers will be traded...no way

This is typical ESPN garbage. They're starting to give Florio a run for his money in the **** department. Does any rumor they report ever come true? It saddens me to see what ESPN has become thanks to those good folks at Disney.

Why on God's green Earth would Dallas trade for another "project" QB who's going to take time to develop when they already have a QB with more "potential".

If they were starting rumors about Brees, ok, at least that would have some plausibility behind it, but Rivers???.
This space reserved for BTP......If he ever wins it.

Then again, this boy won't have a T.A. McClendon(sp?) type player at Dallas.

I still stand by thinking that Hambrick is underrated in Parcell's system.

And you base this statement on what? Have you even heard of Rivers before last year's draft?

I dont think the Chargers are going to trade Brees or Rivers. If the Cowboys did get him, that would certainly be bad news.

Troy Hambrick and UNDERRATED do NOT go together.

Big assed back who should be a bruiser but instead thinks he's Barry Sanders.
