I think that's a lot of DE's in one sentence...

I think that picking up a DE wouldn't hurt. I belong to the take-the-best-player-available camp, and I'm just not sure that any of the DE's are number 9 material.

Our pass rush was OK, but it was not scary. Shawn Springs led the team in sacks...anytime your corner back leads the team in sacks it means you need to go out and get a consistent defensive end.

By having a good DE you allow your corner backs to stay on the receivers while to DE rushes the QB into throwing in a hurry....causing interceptions or incompletions.
Our run defense was solid, but our pass defense was not...only because the lack of consistent rush.

I don't think there is a DE worth the #10 overall pick, but if we can trade down we could be good to go.

I think mock drafts are worthless right now because:

1) You have no idea about all the underclassmean who may declare themselves eligible,
2) You have no idea what free agents a team will sign and what players they will cut,
3) Half the teams drafting ahead of the Redskins will have new coaches.

we need a D-lineman, receiver and center, and to resign our starters. Whatever you don't get in free agency you need to in the draft.

But we won't know that until April.

We need to dump Brunell and pick up a solid corner back, we don't know that we will re-sign Smoot and Springs is getting older and older every year. I think we should draft another key secondary guy, like we did in Sean Taylor, Sean was awesome and should've been Defensive rookie of the year...

We need a pass rush to make our secondary better. We won't see a lot of turnovers until we put some pressure on the QB. Unfortunately, teams won't be forced to pass until they get behind. Which means we need another big play receiver. Its a tough call, but I don't think we should be trading up. Or we end up with no 2nd rounder again next year. Take a DE. Maybe trading down for it.

I have no doubt that G Williams is going to be able to find plenty of guys who can be forces at DE without using the ninth overall pick. Like others have alluded to we don't need a DE so badly that we go out of our way to get one. We take the nest available player and a DE will not be that. There aren't any that are that good. If we keep our pick we'll take an o-lineman, a wr, or a CB. Also, I remember Gibbs saying something like Williams got his pick this year, next year I get mine when we took Taylor. I have no doubt we'll be getting an offensive player unless we take Rolle (unlikely) or we trade down.

I think we should look hard at a CB over a DE. I'm in favor of loading Greg Williams with all the weapons we can muster - he'll know how to use them.

On the other hand, signing Smoot is going to be very tough to do. The #9 pick may well be someone like Antrell Rolle or Carlos Rogers...
There is already a rumor of letting Smoot go elsewhere and promoting Harris to his spot. We could do worse -

If we don't use the our first round pick on a pass-rushing DE, then I think it should be spent on a WR.
Our offense needs some help bad, but with a dominant end it would also free up other linemen to get to the QB.
Pete Kendall is a MAN and a half..

That's Edwards out of Michigan.
Free Agency is going to be a HUGE factor. Jansen coming back will improve the offense a lot. Having a guy that can catch the ball is more important than a guy that can run - for me anyway. Mike Williams stands alone at the top of the WR class - hands + size + clutch player= he's too attractive to pass up. Otherwise, there is plenty of talent at WR beyond both these two - hope we can pick up some picks if Williams is gone...

I can't believe Redskin fans even think Gibbs would want Randy Moss...It's clear they aren't old enough to know him very well. He would NOT want that guy. He might want Santana Moss, but not Randy.
