MEL says DE

Post by hogred »

Washington Redskins Erasmus James, DE Wisconsin
Renaldo Wynn and Ron Warner are the starters so looking for a young stud to give the team a pass rush would be welcomed. James also adds the ability to disrupt the passing lanes even when he doesn't reach the quarterback

i agree with his statement, either Erasmus James or David Pollack. If both are unavailable I would draft the top center or wide reciever.

I hope he's right James would be nice or Pollack. Maybe even the kid out of Boston College.

I posted this yesterday, the order is wrong (as of week 15), but it's about the same guy!

There are much better DE's in this years draft than James. I think that he is a bit overrated. It will be interesting to see how he does in the "all star" bowls and the combine.

I agree Wingman, although he is a big speed guy. He can play the run and the pass.
I wouldn't mind grabbing Spears out of LSU.

I think we will probably wait till at least 2nd, but most likly the 3rd round before getting a DE. Why spend our first picks on Defense when we are ranked # 3 in total defense, and so close to last on Offense. But if James is still around 2nd round he would be nice to have.

i absolutely think that james is overrated...that's why if mike williams is picked up before our #9 pick, then we should trade down.

I think New Orleans might be interested in trading first round picks so they can pick up derrick johnson from texas. and looking at the draft pick value chart, we would get their first round pick (16) and their second round pick...

it'll give us a chance take a quality pass rusher and an o-lineman in the second round...or visa/versa

I posted that before he announced he was staying.

I agree with you though on trading down for an extra pick. If we could get James later and get a 2nd or extra 3rd rd pick that would be my first choice.

James is ranked a bit too high. Frankly there is just too much talent at the skill positions early in the draft to take a DE.

Is this where you got your info? This was done before the draft order was official. Mel had Dallas at #9 drafting Mike Williams and the Redskins at #11 drafting James. If Mike Williams is there at #9 he is ours.

I'd like to see us get Shawn Merriman....he's a little under-sized, but he's got a good motor and he plays with heart and intensity. He also already has an established relationship with LA, so he he would already have a heads up coming in.

He's definately not a #9 pick, but if we trade down, I'd like to see it happen.

That's a good decision, ths kid has real potential but he needs to really put some weight on. He looks like Manute Bol out there or something. Also, Gregg Williams would never take him because he can't defend the run. He will be awesome though, maybe we can get him next year, Philly will have the Freak and we'll have his second coming.

My feeling right now would be that the coaches will opt for trading down to get a 1 and a 2! BUT this will be only if they can set the team up thru what limited FA moves we have available after we sort out our own Free Agents staying or leaving.

We are led to believe they want to try and keep everyone and re-structure to allow some additions but again that may be wishful thinking when the $$$ start to be tempting to some of these guys that had really better years than anyone could expect!

It is going to be an interesting few months leading up to what we do in the draft!!
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Once again, I say Dan Cody only because I've watched every OU game this year and have seen what he has to offer. He has great work ethic and a motor that doesn't quit. Both things that Greg Williams loves to see in his players, well any coach for that matter:)

Trade down to middle or late 1st round, draft cb with first , hopefully rolle or the kid from auburn, and then pick up a DE in the second, in a deep DE draft. Center with third and pick a tight end or wide receiver with the fourth

The days of the small pass rusher is over.

I think we draft another DT and have one of the biggest D-lines in the league.

Our offense stuck this year.

I think we draft Mike Willams (USC) the next big WR coming into the NFL and we make our offense one to reckon with.

Later in the draft we can get an offensive line man then we can take of the defensive end in the FA

I think we should go ahead and take Mike Williams in the first, use the pick we get for Garnder on Marcus Spears from LSU, then get the best Center that's left in the draft. Anything else will be a bonus.
oops....sorry!
