Arkansas, QB/WR, Matt Jones

6'6, 237, runs a 4.4, and is known to stiff arm linebackers.

Also, he has massive hands and would be a good replacement for Rod Gardner on the trick play, even.

Plus, he could be an emergency QB in the case Ramsey and Brunell are both hurt and Timothy is not around any more.

I watched Jones a bunch of times this season on CBS' coverage of the SEC. He is a great athlete, my brother played against him a couple of seasons ago, and he ran all over them.
Maybe a good mid-round pick.

Matt Jones is just... A wow player. He was close to going to OU to be a WR when he came out of High School, but as soon as the Razorbacks glanced at him, he bit and we got the SEC's All-Time leading rusher for a QB.

I have seen him a few time be carrying a D-Lineman then just throw the ball like he had no problem whatsoever. I mean, he did things I couldn't believe.

If I can, I'll post the video of his run verse Alabama for a TD.

In my section at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback stadium we nicknamed it the "Got 'im, Got 'im... D***, don't got him!" touchdown run after seeing the faces of alabama players arguing over who should of got him on the big screen.

Plus, he was ok in baketball and was very rarely winded even in basketball.

The Postons are like kryptonite to the NFL. I agree, stay far away from their players.

The best description I've heard of Henry is "Antonio Bryant with a little less talent".

Jones is an intriquing prospect. I doubt he's a 4.4 guy, but he does have decent enough speed. His frame looks like he could carry another 25 pounds without a problem, so he may be a year or two away from being a decent receiving TE.

I've seen Henry play a number of times..I live in "Neers" territory. Henry is a nice talent (6'5", fast and good hands) but very very undisciplined. When he announced that he was turning pro, the WVU coach wished him luck...he didn't even try to stop him.

During the Gator Bowl vs. Fla State, the QB didn't throw to him when he was open, he stomped off the field and threw his helmet...he didn't play the next series (or two). He is really immature and would NOT last under Gibbs. He makes Randy look like a mature adult. We do NOT want him.

We do want another player on WVU -- RB Kay Jay Harris. He's 6'2 or 6'3" and weighs in around 245..He is fast, tough and can get those hard yards around the goal line, 3 and 1 or 4th and 1. We need to grab him with our 3rd round pick and let Rock go. He offers a lot more than Rock does to our offense.

Chris Henry has some PR work to do becuase right now he has the baggage that no prospect wants, an attitude problem that takes away from the talent that he has.

Another Razorback huh Smithian

Just Joking. If McCants leaves, and he is there in the 3rd-4th round I'm on board.

But in the first we wait for Mike Williams. If he is there at #9 we take him. If not trade down, and pick up David Pollack. And a draft pick.

Ok... Matt Jones does run a 4.4.

I mean, I used to think he ran about a 4.2 when I first watched him actually run.

Also, like I said, he is big. He could be a quick blocker, you know. Motion him into the righ spot, he can block.

Also, we could do some motion, snap it, give it to himm, and he would be an ok trick play once or twice a year.

Jake, could you get your mom to call Joe Gibbs about him?

Do we need any more larger, possesion type receivers?

Assuming temporarily that either Garnder or McCants stays, that will make our #2, 3, and 4 receivers all (more or less) bigger, possesion type guys. Add Cooley and our TE next season (Royal can catch TD's, but I've got my concerns about him), and you've got a long list of bigger guys. Perhaps there are speedier options out there, someone that could stretch the field more?

No, no, no!

Matt Jones will probably never be an NFL QB. I mean, that is just the thoughts about him in Arkansas.

He himself speaks about himself as an NFL WR.

Here is a video of Matt Jones running with a terrible hamstring injury;

Here he is verse Auburn's very good defense this year; http://oinkville.tripod.com/jones54.mpeg

Here is near amazing bootleg verse Texass in 2003; http://oinkville.tripod.com/mjtexas.wmv

Here is his 70 yards and a dunk run verse Ole Miss; http://oinkville.tripod.com/jones70.wmv

Also, that was Matt Jones's only time over to get an unsprtsmanlike after a TD.

I like Matt Jones as a football player. I think he'd make a super safety. Knowing how a QB thinks can be a huge advantage. Jones has good speed and he's huge. I think the transition to WR is very difficult - not that he couldn't do it. But if he's interested in looking at the Safety spot and playing on special teams - it could make the difference in his draft status. This WR class is deep - so he might be better served as a more versatile guy. If I was Jones' agent - I'd be selling him as a safety/WR/athlete - or maybe even a Punt Return man... I wish the best for him. We've got him rated low on our QB list at present. If you get word he's working at another position - we'd love to hear it Smithian!

Scooter, he is going to the Senior Bowl as a QB/WR/Punt Returner.

Not sure where you got the safety thing, though.

Matt Joens played alot of WR in the Spring Game before the season. If we had a better year, he would of played some WR, but we needed him so much we couldn't afford to take him out and his leg was hurt most of the year with a hammy that kept having to play.

You ask ANY SEC coach who teh SEC's best athlete is during the 2003 and 2004 season, it will be Matt Jones.

Also,Scooter, like I said somewhere else in this forum; He almost went to Oklahoma to be a WR.
