My family regularly contributes to the Red Cross but in light of the recent Tsunami (CNN reports latest death total at 80,000!!) I wanted to do more.
SO... I thought to myself what's more important, getting a few free cups of coffee at Starbucks, a free DVD at Best Buy OR helping get fresh water and food to the victims of this unimaginable tragedy.
To me the answer is obvious. So I have started putting the gift cards I got for Christmas up on Ebay. 100% of all $$ I get for them will go to the help the victims.
To put it in perspective, this event has taken more than TWENTY TIMES the number of lives that were taken on 9/11. Not to mention the fact that their are thousands of square miles devastated and multiple countries involved.
As bad as 9/11 was, this event dwarfs it in terms of impact, devastation and community health problems.
Many of these areas already have a hard time getting clean water etc. BEFORE this event. This had made it impossible. There are literally millions of people without water to drink or food to eat. When shelter and clothing are barely in your top 10, you know things are bad. Priorities are water, food, cleaning up the dead and fending off disease.
The chance for diseases to spread is enormous.
I urge all of you to do the same as I, or contribute directly yourself.
If you are interested in the Ebay option but are not an Ebayer I can sell your gift card for you.
Just PM me and let me know you are interested along with store and gift card amount.
