clarret

Post by John Manfreda »

If he is around in the 4th round I draft him in a heart beat. Or if he traded Gardner for a late 3rd round pick I would draft him. I think we need to get a reciever and a center first though. I think we could get his rust off and we could end up with a real star. He hasn't played in two years so he won't be effective right away but if we draft him in the late rounds he could be a long term investment that could really pay off.

Really -- can't imagine him being a Joe Gibbs type of player...not enough discipline.

Morton is not going to be here next year. I am not sold on our running backs. With Brown doing punt returning he could have Morton's spot. Clarret is better than Cartwright and Betts. He has to devolop though first. This wouldn't do much for us until two or three years. Portis is really inconsitent. He has talent but I am not sold on him.

I'd pass on Clarrett he hasn't played in 2 years and suffered from injuries in the year he did play. He's not that big so using him as a short yardage back wouldn't be an option. Plus he comes with a lot of baggage. I think we could do better.

Morton is a bargain next year at 1M of cap hit... I'dbe surprised to see us do anything with him until after next season when his annual salary cap hit increases substantially.

Right now he's slated to only count about $1M against the cap and it would cost us about that to absorb what's left of his bonus cap money.

So if we cut him... we wouldn't really save any cap space AND we wouldn't have Morton.

I'm not saying that it won't happen, I'm just saying that finances dictate a lot in this league, and I personally think that Morton's contract for 2005 is friendly enough that we'll keep him.

I'm also not sure why everyone is so down on the guy... he was hurt too early in the year to complain about how he was playing and I thought he was one of the very few bright spots in a very dull 2003 season.

... as for Clarett... we have too many needs to even think about him unless it's because it's late in the draft, he's still available, and we're utilizing our 'long shot' draft picks.
Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.

I think after next season Morton can void the remainder of the contract. I thought that was the stipulation that sent him to arbitration. Anyone remember that?

Morton is terrible, and overpaid. He is worthless at RB and he has been disappointing as a return guy. Dump him. As for a RB, we need one, but a goal-line guy like a Z Crockett. Maybe Brandon Jacobs in the 4th or 5th. Big 260 that can double as a fullback.

GIVE IT A REST ALREADY. Every time you think of an available running back's name, you come on here bash portis. And say we should pick up someone else.

Well guess what. Whether you like him or not Portis is a redskin. And he is a top 5 back in the league.

Oh yeah. A while back you posted that Cedric Benson should be our back. And posted ridiculous stats about how he runs a 4.2 40.

I watched the rose bowl, and Vince Young is a better Running Back than him, and he plays QB.

As for Clarett. His character speaks for itself. Not to mention that he was out of shape at his last work out. It's been a year, and I bet he still isn't there yet.

We have our back. We have our back up. We have another speed guy and another power guy.

Even though you don't like him he's here to stay.

Jamal Lewis, Shaun Alexander, Lt, Duece Mcalister, Curtis Martin, Corey Dillion, Aman Grenn, Edgerin James, no Portis is not a top 5 back. These are just a couple that are better. He is pretty good but not that good. Portis is made for a spread offense. If Gibbs wants to run a power oriented system he need to get a ball control back which isn't Portis. I haven't bashed Portis in a while even after Ladell put up his big game. If you knew the facts. Never answer one of my questions on a post again and I will never talk on your posts.

Calm down its not even tht serious. The only reason I even remember your posts, is because I have a photographic memory. It's a gift.

You're not a mod. And I will post to anything I want to. As a matter of fact make another post about Portis, I'll respond again. If I have something to say I'm saying it. Don't consider yourself special. I always post when I disagree, or agree.

Top 5 backs. Priest, LT, Alexander, Green and Portis in no particular order.

You need anger management.

Try taking 3 deep breaths and counting to 10.

Maybe go to a movie. Or even take a nice jog.

OK he's a top 8 back

Back on topic
I wouldn't use a 4th round pick on Clarett for 2 reason

1. Clarett rushed for 1,237 yards and 16 touchdowns as a freshman in 2002, leading Ohio State to the national championship. He was suspended before the 2003 season for accepting money from a family friend and lying about it to NCAA and Ohio State investigators.

2. Clarett asked the Supreme Court to reconsider his lawsuit challenging the NFL's draft eligibility rule. This was done this week by a player who is now eligable for the draft. (why would we draft a player that is a legal battle with his probable employer) He has nothing to gain and should let this go

Would I bring him in as a undrafted free agent maybe....spend a pick on him NO

Relax. I did forget about Lewis. But not about Deuce. THey are both great backs. But I would not take either one over Portis.

Man, take a deep breath alright.

Let's just agree to disagree. IMO Portis, is a top 5 back. And I won't change my opinion. In your opinion Portis should not be on this team. You won't change that, and even though I disagree I respect that you won't flip flop.

Just like you think Portis is overrated I think Benson and Clarett are overrated.

By the way don't ever question my knowledge again.

if we did that it would be a wasted pick ....... i think we got CLINTON PORTIS in some trade this past year ...for thoses of you who think is a bust he still should have ended up with another 1,500 yard season

Again back to Clarett, he's pursuing his case to the Supreme Court for one reason - $$$$$$.

If by some chance the SC overturns the lower court decision and rules that Clarett should have been eligible, the civil suit will commence.
This space reserved for BTP......If he ever wins it.

I don't like him as a player, as a person nor as a complaintant. He's small, oft-injured and a me-first punk - imho. I'd watch him in the WWE, if somebody would toss him out of the ring a few times. I think he's bound for prison.

Clarret is a team cancer. No matter what his talent, you don't want him. He's a Jeff George type, just creates issues. We don't need him.

Yeah, the guy only led his team to a national championship when he did play. He isn't a good student but he can play football and using a 4th round pick wouldn't be that big of a deal. In fact, he probably will be taken in the 2nd round by some other team.

Well since there's no learning or studying involved in the NFL he should be just fine. :)

Clarett is a day 2 draft pick.

He may be talented, but he is a trouble maker.
