McCants Speaks Out On Possible Departure

Post by Jake »

Wideout Darnerien McCants, who played in only five games after signing a three-year, $4.5 million deal, spoke about being dealt or released. "I wouldn't be surprised at all," he said. "I'm a realist. They may think they made a mistake."

This is pretty sad to read. I don't understand why D-Mac doesn't do what he can (play special teams) to get in. He's a real talent and it sucks that he could become resigned to playing somewhere else.

The Skins will get burned by Darnerien...
happens all the time ! Will be a great loss for us - he would have added a needed spark had they played him during the season. He just wants to play ball.

What is sad? Hey the guy is a good receiver, but nothing to build an offense around. If he was, it wouldn't matter if he played special teams or not, he would be playing.

If he won't do other things to help the team, like play special teams, and other guys will...and they are good at it...then he needs to go. He would only be dead weight.

I like him, and I think he can contribute, but he needs to put the team first. He doesn't get paid to be a nice guy.

I'm thinking there's more to it than "special teams" playing....and he will shine on another team if given the chance. Nice guy or not...he's a good ball player....who just wants to play and has proved himself when given the opportunity to be on the field.

This sucks!!!

I wish they would have played him some more. If we drop Gardner they should at least give McCants a chance to compete for the number two position.

This guy is terrible. He drops the ball all the time. He's a big guy that can't block or catch!!

This is the Rod Gardner thread, isn't it??

and has proved himself when given the opportunity to be on the field

Well he hasn't been on the field much this year, but when he has he has not proved himself.

I believe it was the game against the Eagles that he got that ridiculous/unecessary holding penalty by the sidelines that negated a big gain. He got in the game......but did not produce.

It is bad that the only play I remember him being involved in resulted in a loss of yards.

As far as a Red Zone threat.....he was LAST YEAR.

Two words.....

Chris Cooley

He is our Red Zone threat, and will be for years to come.

Jacobs did well against the Vikes, so it doesn't look promising for DMAC

I am not picking on him. I said earlier he is a good receiver.....

I know the whole team got penalties all year....

What I am saying is that when he finally got on the field he did not proove his case that he should be playing. That is my point. Gibbs got him on the field in a "Big" game and he did not produce, which is what he gets paid to do.

Wilds got a chance and he produced....
Pierce, Marshall, and Salavae got their chances and they produced......
DMAC did not take advantage...bottom line

I think you all are blowing this out of proportion..... If the media said to McCants,"Hey D-Mac... Joe has said he's gonna need to re-tool the offense and maybe shake up the WR Core... Would you be surprised to be traded?"

And then McCants gives the PC answer of, "I wouldn't be surprised at all, I'm a realist. They may think they made a mistake."

See.... now the media's not gonna write their question in because it makes the story less exciting....

Continue your bickering (he said pointing and laughing)

Oh yeah well he could have been asked something else, so I'm pointing my finger at you!!!

And if you didn't learn anything from the presidential election, you at least had to have learned that the media is always up-front and on the level and they never hide or misconstrue information.

Mccants is a decent WR... thrash is better because he is awesome on ST and is a better 3rd WR. taylor is just sick when it comes to speed and actually is becoming pretty goodon ST. there is no room for mccants. if he gets cut by the skins and goes on to have a decent career, great for him, but the fact is he doesnt fit here.
May #21 never be worn again by another Redskin but may every Redskin play like they are wearing #21 on their backs.

Joe Gibbs: OK RiC What do you think of this thread?

RiC: It's the end of the season. Our fans like to speculate right now. Each has his/her own favourites. You said you will "re-tool" this offense. "Re-tooling" in past seasons meant changing half the team!

Joe Gibbs: I am not going to do that. I will only fix a few key positions. If the team had to drop -one- receiver, which one would you suggest I drop?

RiC: I know one that has 50/50 chances of being dropped or traded this offseason.

Joe Gibbs: No comment. 8)
Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!

Trading D-Mac now (after re-signing him last year ) would be a bigger cap hit than getting rid of 50/50

you are correct... a lot of people on the team did commit stupid penalties....

but i agree with armyhog... mccant's only memorable play this year was that penalty... and it called back a touchdown...

see ya... we don't need him...

Ugh you people. First of all we all have seen what he can do. So if we keep him only for depth then it is the right call, remember Cole's toe?? Secondly I heard an interview with McCants after his penatly. This was a fairly new play for him. And unlike the first string WR's who get to practice it over and over. He probably didn't get that opportunity. He said he is learning. So you guys cut everyone else, including Gibbs the slack to getting together in a new system. But not McCants??? HELLO.

bump

Thrash takes his special team dutties serious, and could move up in the depth chart.

Taylor jacobs right now i believe is ahead of DMAC in the depth chart...

It's all conjecture, but it will likely come down to two things. DMAC doesn't play special teams and he isn't a good practice player.

Joe has already made it abundantly clear how important it is to not only be at all practices, voluntary or not, but also work your butt off. Joe believes that if you do this, not only will you be better than you are, but that you will be better than most players who have more natural ability than you do.

As I said, all conjecture. I don't actually know that DMAC is a bad pratice player, just have that feeling after the many posts and rumors we've heard about it.

Their has to be a reason DMAC has seen such little playing time, especially considering our anemic offense this season...

No, no, no. I want D-Mac back I know he can do the job. I have him pegged as my new Rickey Sanders, man. How many sure-handed scring machines are you gonna find with the money he's making ?
