At least he's anti-Irvin (to a lesser extent) as well.

Dr. Z is an idiot full of sh** and prejudice

Post by Redskin in Canada »

Why on earth every time that the Hall of Fame process advances one step, Dr. Z column is quoted in a thread here???

tcwest10, I really like your postings and your avatar is great but COME ON!!! Why do you go back to quote this idiot???

The guy calls the other voters "blind" and "air heads" in his piece of cr@% article but how about himself? His attitude is so full of prejudice that one has to wonders who invited him to vote in the first place!!!

You know, RiC...I really don't need to run my topics past you before I post them. The topic meets all the criteria for posting in this forum. If it bothers you, ignore it. Otherwise, you're concerning yourself with policing responsibilities that really don't fall to you.

Paul Zimmerman is a putz! Another Yankee voter who can't give any team in the south a nod!

Paul Zimmerman (Dr. Z)
You can reach him at (212) 522-1212 and say Paul Zimmerman or at (404) 827-4500 at the newsroom of Sports Illustrated.

He as far as I know hasn't given out his email address, just the generic cnnsi@cnnsi.com (just put Paul Zimmerman in teh subject line). If you call state your case on why your player should be in the HOF, don't do what you and I want to do and tell him how much of an idiot he is because Monk's not a Jet player!

Hey TC, let me know if you have any new mailing addresses, I am about to send out my yearly letters!
Philly Lost!

Couldn't have happened to a nicer team or a nicer set of fans!

Nothing, yet. There are a few selectors who've retired or whatever, but the addresses are still posted.
I'll git busy looking again after work tonight.

I thought there was an obvious sense of humour in my post but it is now apparent that it was misunderstood. My mistake. I thought that two fans of the same player trying to support his arrival to the Hall of Fame can have some sense of humour and a common dislike for that writer.

My point is clear. As a person who feels very strongly about the Hall of Fame for Art Monk, I felt that this article is counterproductive to that goal.

Here's hoping that no one is persuaded by Dr Z.

Didn't he pick the Bills over the Redskins in SB 26 (answer: yes. Smart guy).

By the way, Jeff Bostic ought to be there with Grimm and Big Joe. Joe Gibbs won three Super Bowls with three different QB's and three different RB's...but one center.

Linemen aren't considered "skill position" players, and are often overlooked. The argument could be made for that entire line, as a whole, to inducted as one.

You're right. Too much glitz in the HOF voting. The OL is the engine of the offense (OK, I've said that about six times on the list...sorry for the seventh).

Jacoby, Grimm, and Bostic played together for about 12 years, so they are the unit.

I considered Mark May, who left for the Cards about '88 or '89, George Starke, who retired about '83, and Raleigh Mackenzie and Jim Lachey, who joined the Skins later. However, Jacoby, Grimm, and Bostic played though it all. (The Hogs evolved, so which version should we pick?)

Maybe special notice should go to Jim Lachey. I once read that Lawrence Taylor never had an unassisted sack going against Lachey. The Giants began to "hide" Taylor from Lachey, lining him up on the left and having him swing around their right to attack after Lachey had blocked someone else. That says a lot.

*

And for the record, Art Monk deserves the HOF because he:

- was the Redskins' main receiver, whether deep, medium, or short

- ran perfect routes, from practice and practice and more practice

- could take a short lob pass over a blitz and drive it 50 yards...ask the Bears in the '86 season playoff game.

- ran the end-around like he had been a starting tailback in college, which he was

- blocked hard; could always be depended on to eliminate the CB on a run

- broke the NFL record for catches in a single season, in an offense that balanced running and throwing, in a passing attack that spread the ball around

- broke the career record for receptions

- broke the career record for consecutive games with a reception

- had one weakness: he failed to be a me-first publicity magnet

One of things I remember most about Monk that I don't think a lot of people emphasize enough is how well he blocked. He always took his guy out of the play.

Art Monk HOF

Post by Redskin in Canada »

It is very possible that Boss or someone else may soon post a new thread about the Art Monk HOF Cartoon and soon to come petition. But in the mean time, please see the Cartoon:

http://www.the-hogs.net/History/ArtMonk/Monk.html

I already e-mailed all the writers in the list. Please do so if you wish to support Art Monk. Several of us in this board strongly believe that this is a noble cause.
