redskins-28 wrote:My gripe is on Gibbs' play calling on the last drive the offense had where they went 3 and out with 3 runs. The entire game we were mixing it up with short passes and running and ate away the clock...... so why change on the last drive? There was only 5 minutes left and we could have EASILY run out the clock by holding on to the ball. I NEVER understand why any team changes to a prevent defense in the last 2 minutes or a prevent offense as we do?? If what you have been doing all game is working then stick with it, DON'T change the game plan. Our running game was mediocre yesterday so why did he call 3 running plays and then punt? Just because you are up by 4 points don't play like the game is over (Gibbs always does this and relies on the defense to save the win), keep playing the same scheme you have all day and score again to seal the game.
he called 3 running plays to do exactly what happned... he forced them to use all of their time outs... that is what you are supposed to do...
they converted on 4 and 10... that was like watching the packers choke against the eagles last year... anyone remember 4 and 26....? we lost on very long odds... really that has to be like 1 500K odds of beating us...
the reason we lost is because our offense sucks... we only scored 10 points and couldn't run the clock out... if we had converted the first down and made them use all of their timeouts the game is over and we win... our line sucks...
See right now I'm on lettuce... Pretty soon I'll be on fries... After that.. The grill... And after that... Comes Assistant. Manager.... and That's When the Big Bucks roll in!
the problem with the offense is NOT playcalling....the problem is a pathetically ineffective offensive line.
the skins hardly ever take "the deep shot" -- maybe 4 or 5 times a game -- and yet the o-line has given up 35 sacks! and that doesn't take into account the hurries. however, teams like indy and green bay, who take 4 or 5 deep shots on each drive, have only given up 13 or 14 sacks. that is the difference. whenever ramsey takes a 7 step drop, he gets sacked or hurried. thus, gibbs' hands are tied. he's not going to continue to call plays that require a deep drop and let ramsey get killed.
think back to gibbs' first tenure -- his offenses were methodical, but explosive. trut me, he wants to be explosive now too, but he simply doesn't have confidence in the o-line to give ramsey enough time to make those plays.
i expected brown to struggle, but i didn't expect randy thomas to have such a horrible year. between him and samuels, they have some of the most underacheiving talents in the league. i love buges, but he must step this o-line up in '05 or else this team will continue to lose despite whatever other WRs they bring in through the draft or FA.
Quote: Q: Did the injury to Fred Smoot play a factor in the coverage scheme? A: "We were short-handed over what we could do because Fred went down and Ade Jimoh went down on a special teams play. We were in a situation where we couldn't run a an aggressive defensive package. We didn't have anybody left. We had to keep our linebackers in while they had four wide receivers in. Normally we would have had more defensive backs in there. That's all we could do at that time because we were short."
So that's it. We had no sound at the bar where I watched. All the speakers carried the Jets / Patriots...which makes sense, since I was in Manhattan.
