ESPN 2K5, Best Way to Use Cooley

Post by Skinsfan55 »

I know this is a videogame question, but it didn't seem to fit in any of the other forums. Oh well.

I have ESPN 2K5, and I was disappointed with a couple aspects of it, and have been playing Madden 2004 instead a lot this fall/winter. I'm giving it a second shot though and I was wondering how other owners of the game were using Chris Cooley.

In Madden the answer was easy, you could use Chris Cooley as a FB and split him out to the LOS to go out for patterns, or you could even throw a few plays in where he was the tight end... But in ESPN 2K5 you cannot switch positions in the depth chart (which is a HUGE drawback, if a FB is injured a TE ought to be able to fill in for a few games, same with a center being able to play guard, etc.)

It's my meticulous nature I guess, but I want this to look right. Do you use Cooley as a TE or recreate him as a FB in the game. If you keep him at TE, you have a rather weak run blocker who gets bowled over sometimes. If you put him at FB it's impossible to split him out into a TE spot.

This is also a question about how the H-back is used exactly, what do you guys think?

Im not exactly sure. The draw backs you mentioned are pretty bad and I can't stand it. I've been using him stricly as a TE and he's progressed nicely.

I checked for update rosters and I was also dissapointed with them also.

The running game makes up for it though!

Nah, I'm a PS2 guy, lol. I refined my football videogame skills in freshman year of college and I was unstoppable, if anyone tried to play me NOW though nearly 2 whole years removed from that though... I'd be a cakewalk to beat, haha.

I'll definately be looking out for you over the weekend.

I was playing 2k5 last night. I must say that Cooley is most effective as a TE. Its also the most gratifying place to use him. The FB position doesn't have the plays that will really bump up his stats quickly and make him a probowl player. I threw to him 13 times, he had 187yds and 3 TD's.

Running game. Get a MONSTER FB who can runblock like a mad man! Clinton Portis is the beast he is on this game and I amassed 220 yds rushing last night also. The running game in ESPN very fun.

The solution in ESPN 2k5 is to us the Substitution menu. You can go into any formation where you want Cooley as the FB and just make the switch.

I like ESPN over Madden because of...

1: Motion of more than one player before the snap. Madden only lets you move one player, period.

2: Gibbs plays. Madden doesn't have the counter-trey... and the 'Skins playbook lets you run it both directions out of just about every single-back formation in the book. What was that philosophy? Running a few plays to perfection out of many different looks? Looks like somebody at ESPN did their homework.

The only area as far as gameplay is concerned that ESPN beats Madden hands down is in the running game and instant replay challenges.
