You're right 1niksder, if Joe had any doubts about anyone, they would not be a Redskin for very long! You can lead a horse to water but you cannot make him drink.
The coach, IMO, felt he needed an experienced QB and for whatever reason we ended up with Brunell.
From the tapes/information (or whatever) that Joe had he thought that he had a very good prospect in Pat. He indicated, from what we were led to believe, that both would be given an opportunity to show their stuff in training camp.
Joe decided that Mark would start. It was soon obvious to everybody (but the people who decide things) that we needed to make a change.
Joe has a history of standing by his people. This has nothing to do with how he felt about Pat but how he thinks these things should be handled. It is his team.
Some of us cautioned that if the change were made before Joe felt it was time it might affect Pat for the future. Some do not care about this, Joe seems to place some importance to it. It is his team.
Hopefully, now, we have an offensive weapon that has been unleashed and the team can now get it going for the remainder of the season.
I also hope that Joe continues to support Pat AS HE HAS ALWAYS DONE imo.

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

no one. maybe an O-lineman or defensive end. draft another QB in the late rounds. this team isn't that far off. no need to go free agent shopping.
it also sounds like you have no faith in ramsey. if he dosen't pan out, we still don't need another over priced vet.

One way or another we need to find out...
if Ramsey can get the job done. If he can't then we'll need to acquire or draft a QB next year. Brunell has proven he can't bring it anymore.
The bigger question, to me, is why was the decision made to bring Brunell here in the first place? Somebody did a pathetic job of determining what he had left "in the tank". Yeah, it's easy for me to sit here and be a "monday morning quarterback", but somebody at Redskin Park is getting paid to know better and they screwed up BIG TIME.

I find it hard to understand how far Burnell has fell in such short time myself but we may have to keep him through next season for cap reasons.
If we cut him before that he'll count for 7 millon towards the cap but if we keep him until after next season June is what I heard then he only counts for a millon.
The thing to do would be play Ramsey and move Hasselbeck into the back-up postion, he played best out of the three but he was playing 2nd string players. I know Burnell would be the highest paid 3rd string QB in history! LOL but it's better than giving up 7 billon! just my 2 cents, hell thats about all the sense I got! LOL

I understand C++, but nothing as complicated as the NFL cap.
However, I like your principle: if Brunnell is finished, really finished for whatever mysterious reason, then cut him before he cuts too deeply into the cap. "Bite the bullet". Let Tim H. be 2nd string. He fits the role.

While we are at it:welch wrote:OK, if this debate is going to come alive again, then I'm going to start the "Let's start Sonny" campaign. Remember, Sonny Jurgenson:
- hasn't lost a step (never had a step to lose)
- is still in his playing-shape (same beer-belly)
Let's bring back also Jerry Smith, Charley Taylor and Bobby Mitchell.
You could forget about dropped passes altogether from now on.
Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!

If Welch had written Joe Theisman, well, that is another story!

Check the JT's leg but not SJ belly?welch wrote:Well, Joey T. is my backup choice if I can't persuade anyone that it's time to activate Sonny. We would have to check the leg, though, especially since quickness was a big part of Joe T.'s game.
No such worries about Sonny Jurgenson.

You may be on to something. I think Sonny is much thinner now than when he played. He needs to get back up to his playing weight before we can activate him.
