RAMSEY = OUR MAN

i think ramsey proved tonight what a lot of us have been saying all along- he is the man, he is our "QB of the future" that we can build around. and we SHOULD have been building around him this year- in our 3rd game with him as the starter, the offense started clicking. imagine if that had been the 3rd game of the season, and we'd been playing good offense for 9 weeks now. we'd be heading DEEP into the playoffs (quite easily in a weak NFC), and battling it out with philly for the NFC East title.

alas. but watch out next year...

another thought is that this is what our offense might look like next year with a decent o-line... NY had a lot of backups on the D-line, and we handled them nicely. if we can get a good line that will handle REAL players just as well, we can be this good every week.

THE RAM baby, I've said it all year Ramsey is the guy, he is our future and our leader.

I ain't buying it yet...I've seen him get me all warm and fuzzy a few times and then blue ball me for 2-3 games throwing pics, taking sacks, holding ball too long...hey, I'm glad he rocked, but not sold by any means. If he plays solid ball here on out, yea, I'd be much more optimistic. He actually played so-so against Pitt and Philly which are tough teams.

You can't really hold Pitt and Philly against him. If you watched todays game the main theme was the running game according to the announcers. We DID NOT run the ball in either of those games and when you get predictable what do you expect to happen? IMO he has played solidly since he's been at the helm and has shown marked improvement since last year.

actually, I thought he looked pretty good against Pitt and Philly. Obviously he was a bit rusty, but mostly it was WRs dropping balls, and not having a running game. It looks like the WRs have adjusted to a right hand thrower who gets the ball there a lot stronger.

He showed signs of having more mobility against Pitt, and it really showed today. He's come a long way in just a few months. Thank you Joe Gibbs, you've salvaged what could have been a wrecked career for PRam. We now have a legitimate QB. It's been a long long time.

Good things are coming =)

I don't think it's fair to say that things would be different if Ramsey was in there earlier in the year. Yes, I think he did a great job yesterday, and he's hopefully going to define this offense in the future. But, I really beleive he was a different QB yesterday as a result of sitting on the bench for a while. He was more relaxed in the pocket, more confident with his throws, and managed the game better. Would he have played like that earlier in the year? I don't think he would have, but what good does it do to wonder? I think he's in the final stages of getting rid of Spurrier-itis. He doesn't look at all like the Ramsey under Spurrier. This is the Ramsey that Gibbs has been waiting for.

I agree with ya, JPFair. It looked like PR was finally starting to get the idea that he could get the pass off without getting knocked on his well, not his chest, anyway, after each play. It's amazing what a little confidence that you will get protection will do for your game, isn't it?

Ramsey looked confident and poised yesterday. He was accurate (19 for 22) and now I think Gibbs did the right thing by sitting him on the bench for the first half of the season.

You know, I wanted Brunell benched from week 3 until it eventually happened. If Ramsey came in, who knows if he would have performed like he has. That being said if I had to do it all over again I would have allowed things to happen as they have.

I think there were a lot of us that wanted Patrick in there much earlier but there were also a few who were trying to point out that we all have to let Joe do things his way.

Fortunately we are now reaping the benefit of that decision. There are a lot of us who do not think it would have worked earlier.

The Brunell vrs Ramsey thread is OVER, please!

We now see the development is progressing and we have a few more weeks of assessing and hopefully improving the line play. The offense needs to get better. We also should have some concerns about our special teams play!

This next game is going to be an interesting test and I am still excited about the potential of our team.

Now if only we could dig a big hole in the middle of the practice field and cover it with a thin layer of turf... Then when Brunell goes out to take a snap under center during practice he would step on the thin turf and fall into the hole!

Then we could cover the hole with dirt burying Mark Brunell alive and put the turf back over the hole!!

It's the perfect plan!

Maybe, the whole time we were complaining about brunell/ramsey, gibbs knew ramsey wasn't ready......it appears there really was a method to his madness, but it def showed this is the ramsey we all wanted him to be. It's like watching a child grow, my lil gunslinging ramsey has grown up to a bonified QB, lol. Oh, and since when did ramsey become a mobile QB, lol, whatever, it was awsome!

nope, you're all wrong. leaving brunell in was a mistake, he sucked. if ramsey would've been playing all year, he'd not only be fine, he'd be FURTHER along in his development. so nope, sorry, wrong wrong wrong. wasted season. next year good.

we would easily be going to the playoffs (due to the amazing lousiness of the NFC this year). even if we got our butts kicked in the 1st round, that would have been an incredible and meaningful accomplishment to get back into the playoffs.

instead, we are going to sit at home and watch other teams play AGAIN. that is a tremendous waste of an opportunity.

wasted season

I totally disagree! This has not been a wasted season. It's been a season of finding our strengths, weaknesses, and character. While more wins would have been nice, it has been anything but a waste.

There has to be a reason why Gibbs held Ramsey out with all that was going on in front of us. Joe has forgotten more than some people (who think they know something!) will ever know.

For whatever reason he decided to keep him out until he finally put him in, I am VERY thankful.

These next few weeks will be a chance for Patrick to show why Gibbs had faith in him all along and why he waited so long despite the screaming.

We were 5-11 and now we are seeing that the patience is paying off! I think that Joe knew he was not ready!

Ok, not that I disagree with either side of what has been said here necessarily, but we need to clear something up here.

Gibbs is human. It IS quite possible (probable even?) that he made a mistake keeping Ramsey out as long as he did. We are talking about the first coaching/personnel decision he made after a 12-year layoff from football -- not to mention that he is predisposed to prefer older QBs and that he had only ever seen Ramsey on film in Spurrier's offense when he went to get Brunell. But, we will never know, and with any luck it will be a minor bump on the road to a winning season next year.

One game does not a QB make. Let's not get too Gung-ho over Ramsey.

I agree with cville. I think to ponder whether or not we'd be in better shape if Ramsey was in there all along is imprudent. There are pros and cons to it, obviously. Whatever the truth is, to consider the season "wasted" is, in my opinion, wrong. I think it has been a very fullfilling season in many ways. As I said, the wins may not be there, but the steps that we've taken and are in the process of taking, should not be considered for not. In my opinion, the season has not been a waste. We're all going to say to ourselves "What if Ramsey was in there from Game 3 on". But, there can be no point in looking towards the future if we consider this season wasted.

Good post cville! I will add that Gibbs looked a little vexed on more than 1 occasion! I agree with you about the "human" aspect and I have a feeling that the transition was a little more than he expected. He did surround himself with a lot of "help" but I think it was a bigger "deal" than even he was ready for.

I also think in hindsight he may have regretted not starting Patrick earlier but I guess I was just trying to also make the point (that JP made) in that this is still a growing and learning deal and we are a greatly improved team that still needs a lot of work.

We should not think that anything is wasted!

I also hope that like most people (IF it was a mistake) he learns from this. We only beat the gints BUT it was the way that we did it that was promising!

I'm with you on next year but am looking for more the next few weeks also.

Exactly!!

It maybe wasted for bragging rights but that is it.

We learned a valubale lesson this year and will benefit from it this upcoming season.

I for one am very pleased with this season. Seasons of past have left me with a bitter taste in my mouth and no direction. For the 1ST TIME since I can remeber we have leadership, we have a plan, we have a vision and a way to go about it in an effective manner. That alone makes me feel that this season has not been a waste.

I didn't understand the whole Gibbs hoopla at 1st because I wasn't around for the 1st go round. Im still do not have that blind sometimes stupid imo faith that some people have achieved but I do understand why he is so highly coveted. Im enjoying every day of it because his shoes are going to be hard to fill and thats evident with the coaches who followed after him.

We still have a ways to go but we have seen that with Gibbs its always forward and never backward. With the coaches before it'd be a step forward and then two backward. With Gibbs it may be half a step forward and it may take a while but we'll never regress but have constant improvement.

HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!

I think it was very benificial to ramsey sitting on the bench, he even said so himself. He has learned a great deal about the game. But yes as CLL said, this is the first time in a while where even though it's going to be a losing season, it's the first glimpse of optimism we have seen in a while. We have a plan, the coaches and finally getting our group of "redskins". It's going to be exciting!

Welcome to the magic that is Joe Gibbs!

That game was an appetizer! The ants may not be that good but that offensive show was so very good and so needed by both players and coaches (and fans!). I heard an interview today where the ant's defence were saying they could not prepare for most of that because they had not seen it before.

Joe is getting back into it and the players are responding.

Let the magic continue!
