This guy could be a good addition to the DL for the long term. If he is thankful for a second chance (and for the team that gave him that chance) then he and his agents should look no further than DC. What do you think?

I think it depends on money.

If Russell behaves himself and can be signed to an affordable contract because of his past troubles, I have no problem with it. But the deal would also have to include some provision that would allow the Redskins to release him with no penalty to the team if he screws up again.

If he performs well for the rest of the season, though, and resurrects his career -- like Daryl Gardener did -- I don't think I'd get into a bidding war over him. I'd rather spend the money on a draft pick or a free agent with fewer personality issues.

Well,

We had the same issue with Daryl Gardner last year. We took a chance on him and he said how grateful he was to the team. Only to tell us to go to hell because he wanted more money from Denver. I just hope this guy is not like that.

i said from the get-go, sign russell as long term as possible, not this one year bs..... pay him through inentives, and have a behavior clause in the deal. could have probably gotten him for three years for a decent price, but hell, what do i know, thats why my cousin vinny is calling the shots and not me...

We already know what this guy is capable of.. We should have signed him to atleast 3 years. He has no known injuries and we need him. He was killer in Oaktown. We will have to C.

if you have the seattle game on tape, watch for number 96 to check in the lineup, the guy flat out gets push up the middle, even when he's doubled, man what a welcome site that was...maybe he'll start soon. dalton, upshaw, russell and wynn would be hell to run against when they have enough playing time to figure each other out.

I agree with that line up 666 - bring Smith in on situational plays - 3 and 18 or something like that, but otherwise park his record chasing butt on the bench.

And I agree with the idea of signing him long term unless his head swells back up like Gardener's did - I don't miss him - he obviously wasn't someone who was team oriented and got into trouble - look at what happened when he moved to Denver. He hasn't done much since then either.

If Russell can prove himself and stay on the ground like he has been talking in his interviews - you better believe we would regret not signing him.
