I want to know if you think that Monk will finally be selected this year. I don't want to know if you think he should, but will he!
I don't think that he will be selected, because the media didn't like the fact that he wasn't media freindly and he never self promoted. The Media has made up this line that he only caught 8 yard hitches and never made big plays in big games. My response to the first one is that his career reseption average proves that the 8 hitch thing is BS and my response to the big game things is "Just how many big catches did Steve Largent have in big games!

See my avatar. See TC's avatar. See how many people, including non-Skins fans think he should be in there.
I am optimistic about him going in. But I would say that every year until hell freezes over. I guess you can say I am not entirely impartial.

No...he will not get in. However...I've wondered recently. If you put Monk's stats with T.O.'s chest pounding arrogance and "showmanship"...don't you think he'd be a first ballot hall of famer??? You better believe it. I think the voters are punishing Monk for his humility and shyness (for lack of a better word)

DieselFan! I respectfully disagree on both points you bring up.
I think he will get in this year.
I think he has not been elected because there are some who do not think he should be in. Simple as that! I do not believe it has anything to do with who he was/is, this is simply some VERY misguided people using their right to not put him in. This really irks me.
I think this has gone on long enough and that this year he will be in the HOF.

It really bothers me that he is not in the HOF yet. I heard that he had to wait for the Pittsburg receivers to get in first. Lynn Swann and some other guy. Now, he should get in.

I think you're missing my point. The question was posed "Will Monk get in this year?" I answered NO, he won't...not because I don't think he deserves to be there...but because the voters are not going to vote him in again (why should this year be any different than the others?).
My second point was an indictment of the voters....NOT Art Monk. I loved Monk's attitude and the way he played. My question was this: "If Art Monk had been the egotistical/media hogging idiot that T.O. is, would he not be in the Hall of Fame?" And I would argue that YES...he would be in because the voters are biased towards that kind of showmanship (which I would call Unsporstmanlike Conduct...but that's beside the point). Again, both of my points were not meant to demean Monk...rather, they were meant to demean the voters that make these calls.
