Ramsey's Arrival

How about my man. The offense had 9 yards when he came in, and 249 after. He was 13 of 23 for well over a 100 in the 4th quarter. That's more yards in a quarter than Marky Mark has had in 5 seperate games this season.

Ramsey is now 2-0 in the two halfs he has played, as the Skins have outscored their opponents 17-0 when Patrick has been in the game.

He also made smart decisions and avoided interceptions. To only throw one pick in 36 attempts before his final heave was a stellar afternoon. He went a long way towards shutting up a lot of these haters. And with a week as the number one to practice with the starters, and run the Skins plays not our opponents, I think he will do some good things. On each of the two occasions he's played, Ramsey has entered games down big. He hasn't once had a chance to play in a balanced attack, as running the ball hasn't been an option.

I for one can't wait for Sunday.

Smart decisions, huh? I thought he played real well from not playing all year and not taking many snaps in practice, but come now. I can recall several attempts that went right through a few pathetic Bengal corners' hands. The one problem with Ramsey is that he made some very questionable calls about where to throw the ball. I hope he excells this year, but I disagree on the fact that he made good decisions all game. The one interception that was actually caught by their sad secondary was a terrible throw. It was short, covered, and a bad decision overall. I still love him though, but he can play a whole lot better.

What haters?! I don't recall any haters on Ramsey on this whole board. . . Maybe I'm wrong, but I believe that we all love Ramsey and think he is the future of this franchise.

I didn't say that he made smart decisions the hole game. I simply said he made smart decisions, meaning some or most of the time. When you consider that he hasnt played since week 2, and he was on the bench up until entering the game down by 17, I thought he played well. He comes in automatically needing to orchestrate a comeback, making him force things and move the ball downfield.

As far as haters, they're have been many. Every time I made a post about him, someone would rebuttle with stupid stuff like, he averages three interceptions a game, or he gets sacked too much. I consider that hating on a guy that up until last weekend hadn't played more than a full 16-games in the the NFL.

You're right. He played very well, especially because we always end up putting him in extremelly tough situations. I think we all feel relief that Gibbs made this decision. I hope he does better this sunday and chalks up a win against the Egirls!! :)

He settled down and moved the offense but he literally could have had 6 INT's had the Bengels DB's not had butterfingers.

Once he calmed down, he played a lot better and all he can do is grow in the system now. I think he'll improve greatly since he was able to sit back and watch and now can come in and show what he's got.

Too bad, the game is 4 quarters long and we were in a hole to begin with. I'm glad P-Ram got in, but let's be real and think of what 4 quarters of Ramsey would have produces. True, the team scored 17 points, but he also threw 2 INTS; so he was on pace for 4 INTS and 6 possibles during an entire game. I hardly believe that the Bengals would not have scored more and run out the clock with more of P-Rams "patented" errant passes.

Let's remember that Brett Favre has traditionally thrown lots of INTs, yet he's still one of the best. I'm not saying Ramsey is as good as Favre, but he's got the same qualities and a strong arm. He gambles. I don't mind taking some chances that result in turnovers. With Ramsey, we'll be on a roller coaster ride, part thrill and part terror. That's better than Brunell, who was all terror and absolutely no thrill this year.

I, too, share some of Farve's qualities. I breathe, eat and sleep.
Please don't throw ME out on the field. :)
Look. Patrick is out there because he's the #2 QB on the team, not because Joe thinks he's ready to take us to the next level. The #1 wasn't getting it done, so he went to the #2. What you're gonna see is more attempts, and the obligatory (and consequential) increase in INT's.
You may also see a lot more scoring.

Quoting stats isn't hating, making statements that are attacking the guy or downright making fun of him are. I don't remember too many P-Ram haters, if any, on the board over the last few weeks. There weren't a lot of people to shut up, just a whole lot of desperate fans.

I also feel pretty relieved that Patrick is now in. It feels like we've got more direction, a place to go, and some hope for the future. But TC is right, his increase in playing time will inevitably result in some frustrating situations--sacks, picks, and bad decisions from time to time. AND some more scoring, which will be a nice change of pace from time to time.

But TC, I have to say that I don't care what the circumstances are--if I ever got a shot at being "thrown out on the field," I'd take it no matter what!!

Yeah, I'm one of those weird people who would go on that show on ESPN, what would you do, I think its called. I think it would be awesome to see what it feels like to get tackled by Marcus Washington or someone like that.

As far as Ramsey is concerned. He is the future, and this season is pretty much finished as far as playoffs are concerned. Seems like a good time to get the kid some reps in a real NFL offense under real NFL playing conditions. Should make for a much improved team next season.

This is the example of a hater... He cites Ramsey's 2 picks, not giving him credit saying that one was on a hail mary prayer. And as for whoever said he SHOULD have had six picks IF the Bengals would have caught the ball.

That's like me saying... We could be 8-1 if we would have won games decided by 7 or less, caught more passes, made better decisions, and got more help from the refs.

Citing stas isn't hating, if they tell the hole story. People saying that he averaged three picsk a game last year are hating. I think Brunell is butt, but I don't say he throws 45 bad balls a game. I just say he has the lowest complteion percentage and passer rating amongst starters.

Obviously you weren't here in the preseason, people on this board were saying Hasselback was better.

Redskins56 is the only who sees the truth when Ramsey is in. Everything you said I completely agree with. Ramsey did a great job against the Bengals fact. Ramsey has a couple of flaws but that is just from being young. Remember Brett Favre's numbers when he was young. They are exactly the same as Ramsey. To say Ramsey was going to throw 4 ints is stupid. The first one was just from rust and if you saw the game he got a lot better throughout the game. The second one was a last second hail mary. They don't count. If he played 4 quarters he would have only throw 1 int. The second one wouldn't have happend because we would have never been down by 17 and trying to make a comeback and would have had to throw up a last second hail mary.

ramsey's ability to zip the ball into tight places should open up the running game a bit, which would benefit him tremendously. if they can keep him from making dumb mistakes (i think he did pretty well against the bengals) and portis can take advanatge of fewer men in the box, they might be able to stay close in a few games.

While we are "hating on" Ramsey, is anyone else concerned about the sacks he gave away against the Bengals?

I don't think it will go well against the Eagles if he lays down everytime there is pressure.

I'm affraid all the Eagles will have to do is put Kearse in the "jump" position and have him tee-off on Ramsey once, even if it's an offsides penalty, and Pat may be frazzled for the rest of the game.

But, if we can protect him, and get him comfortable, and most of all run the ball down Philly's throat, we will have a much better chance.

I don't hate P-Ram (MENTAL NOTE: Look at my avatar -- that ain't Rypien, silly). I was merely showing you how easy it is to say the opposite of what you think about Ramsey based on a performance which semingly, in your opinion, would put the guy in Canton.

Patrick had a nice second half (I''m guessing you stuck around to watch?), as you witnessed, but by no means was it great. It was good because it provided a sense of hope that we would be able to play football on the other team's side of the field more frequently than we would had Brunell stayed in the game.

However, Patrick is still rusty and is holding onto the ball waaaaay too long, and I place the blame of the awful clock management at the end of the game (WERE YOU STILL WATCHING AT THAT POINT???) squarely on his shoulders. He doesn't have the intangibles that a veteran QB brings to the game, as evidenced at the end of the game, where his actions cost us 30 seconds of clock, yet. He will definitely continue to improve, and the team will benefit from the long run, but to say right now that his performance was great is wishful thinking.

With that in mind, go Patrick!!!

BTW - Skins Fans, let's keep cheering the entire game, the next time we have a home game. If we can root for Patrick when we're trying to get him in the game, we should be more than willing to root for him once he's in there. Don't leave him hangin' again.

I'm all for Ramsey. But you have to admit that he was lucky to escape that game with just two picks. The Bengals missed at least two easy ones.

Ramsey just needs to forget everything that Spurrier taught him.

This is why we need a steady diet of Portis, and a check down route to Cooley if a defender gets free.

If we come out passing the ball then I too think that Ramsey will spend half the game on the carpet. Our O-line is still in the process of coming together and we just threw them another curveball by changing passers. If we let them start the game by smacking the defense around then we have a shot at keeping them on thier toes.

I'm just hoping that Gibbs learned his lesson last week by not running on a weak run defense. This week we need to pound the ball. Even if we get down by two touchdowns early on I say run the ball. Its different if you're down 14 points with four minutes left than with 40 minutes left.

I am very excited. I am praying for Ramsey to succeed. I feel bad for Brunell but this change HAD to happen. It should have been done earlier, in a perfect world we would not have even traded for Brunell but oh well.

It is now Ramsey time and I will give him all the patience he deserves considerring he is in a whole new offense (he is like a Rookie all over again). And since Gibbs has hardly let him practice his offense all year!

Fact is Mark Brunell is the rusty nail in our salary cap coffin.

lets not lose our heads... if Deltha O'Neal could catch, he would've been Ramsey's leading receiver... I'm hoping Patrick does great, but you know Joe is scared to death of the down side (6 sacks, 2 fumbles, 5 Ints) rearing it's ugly head... I would bet he's going to be pretty conservative this first game out...

Actually, this should be interesting, as Samuels will go back to protecting the QBs blindside. Ramsey should be able to see the pressure coming from his right side and get rid of the ball sooner. I look forward to seeing Samuels regain his Pro Bowl form.... before his departure this coming offseason  .

He will make some early completions and get settled in at QB, Gibbs will make sure of it. He can keep defenses honest. Now we can really feature Portis like we should have done all season.

Back to comparing him to Favre, they share plenty of similarities. They are both tough, big QBs with cannons instead of arms. They think they can thread the needle everywhere, but sometimes they can't, usually resulting in a pick. Yes Favre is a great QB, but he does throw INT's more often than he should. I'm hoping Gibbs will mold P-Ram into a patient QB, not tying to gun every 1st option he's got.

Also consider Peyton Manning's first few years. He threw a TON of picks and made mistakes, but made great plays also. Again, Ramsey is no Manning, but patience is the key. It's the ability to turn those flashes of brilliance into more consistent play that makes the difference. A QB doesn't have to come out like Roethlesberger (or however you spell his name) in order to become a great player. At least now we've got a guy with potential and talent behind center again.
