Peter King Article and the snubbing of the 91 Skins

On the MMQB column of Peter King, he talked about the most dominating teams of the last 20 yrs and didnt mention the 91 Redskins, saying he was at the Bengals game and that Esiason lit em up...well i remember that game and one score was a return and we had 2 costly TO, but still manage to win the game....besides 1 game is not enough to rate a team..here is a letter I wrote him hopefully he´ll read it.

Hi Peter, I´ve never write to you before, but I feel compeled to do it today regarding the 91 Redskins.

Just because you watch one game of that season against the Bengals in which the Redskins didnt play as good (????) they did scored 34 pts. One Bengal TD came on a Return and Esiason had a great game, still the Redskins manage to win the game... In 91 the Skins were first in pts scored and second in pts allowed 485-224, more than scored more than double of the opp. They scored 40+ 4 times (56 against the playoff bound Falcons) and had 3 consecutive home shotouts victories to start the season (45-0 to the Lions who made the championship game) They lost 2 games, to the cowboys by 3 pts and the Eagles by 2 on the last game, a game the redskins were winning until the pull all their starters at the half. In the playoff they were unstopable 24-7 to the falcons, 41-10 to the Lions and a very misleading 37-24 to the Bills it was actually over midway thru the 3 quarter.
The 86 Bears had 3 very close games against the Vikings on a Thu night when Mcmahon came from the bench and led 3 quick scoring drives...against the Packeres 16-10 on a late td reception by the Fridge...and against the lowly Colts...If you had only seen that game you probably think the same of the Bears as of the Redskins from the Bengals game....Defenses? Bears held 11 opp to 14 or less, Redskins 9 to 14 or less....

And if we compared it to the 49rs of 89... the Skins ofense and defense are way way better....

So pls when you compare teams do a good analisis of the teams.....dont come with ohhh I saw the Bengals game bla bla....do you think all the Bears games were easy? the redskins expected to win the game and they did...case closed...91 Redskins teams are one of the most dominating teams in the past 25 yrs....Thanks Pete

HTTR In Gibbs I trust....

You make some good points, the redskins quads. Sometimes I feel like the late Rodney Dangerfield should be our mascot, standing there on the sidelines whining to refs and fending for Art Monk in the offseason--not to mention writing letters and making all kinds of calls to the "expert" analysts who routinely snub our teams for the more storybook franchises of the 80's and early 90's.

"We get no respect, I tell ya. . ."

I own Madden 2005 (like everyone else on this board), but I did notice that all of the historic teams only have CB #28 for names instead of Darrell Green. So, last night I looked up full team rosters for the '91 skins and '93 pukes and filled all of their names up. Now I love playing that matchup, although it is extremely difficult. The '91 skins are incredible.

...and even that score was closer than it should have been. It rained hard that day, so Gibbs passed more conservatively, and bashed them with the run.

Check the mid-season game, on a dry field, for the "would-have-been" score. It was about 50 - 10. The Falcons kept "atacking" with the all-out blitz, the Redskins smothered it every time, and Rypien came within a few yards of breaking Sammy Baugh's franchise record for yards in a game, but asked to sit because the game was so far gone. That was about midway in the third quarter. Jeff Rutledge came in and threw a few more long ones against the all-out blitz. The Skins were asking Falcons players, "hey, please stop doing that -- we don't want to run the score up this much!"

Grrrrr.

The '91 team outclassed everyone they faced. Remember that SI
picked the Bills over the Redskins? Quads is right: that game was about 17 - 0 at the half, and the Redskins threw a brand-new Andre Collins blitz at Kelley, who choked, and threw to Kurt Gouveia, who ran it to the one. Bang, TD, 24 - 0, game over.

Oh, so right, Quads.

Unfortunately, Redskins fans are very passionate about their team. Guys like Lenny P and Peter King write this stuff even if they don't believe it because every time they do, they get 5000 letters an emails and they can take it to their boss and say look at all of the attention I am getting. I need a raise. If we all just ignored him and stopped reading his garbage, he would quickly move on to another team, I guarantee.

My props to Tonto. I agree. A writer can put out his career best work, but if it generates no response...who cares ? Most of the stuff seems to be quota-filler anyway. Look at some of the topics they choose, and the timing.
You'll be scratching your head. It's midseason, and you can't come up with anything better than "Most Dominating Teams" ? Particularly when the two most dominant teams this year were whupped by Pittsburgh ?
Uhhhh....maybe midseason isn't a really good time to put that out there, Peter King.

man, anybody else remember that falcons game, what a fun night. When you think about the 91 skins we only lost two games that year. I believe the first was to the eagles but i might be wrong, and that was at least 8, 9, maybe even 10 games into the season. We started out awesome and i thought we had a chance to go undefeated. And the second loss came late in the year, i believe the last or second to last game, after we had already clinched homefield. So i think the 91 skins record in the regular season, plus our convincing win over the bills proves that team was at least one of the top 20 teams ever. I still believe it was the greatest team the redskins ever put on the field.

Kings usually pretty decent, but this is a joke. Where's the link?
There's no ? the '91 team was a VERY dominant team, more so probably than the 83 one. We plain rocked teams worlds? 3 or so shutouts, only real loss was the Cowboys. The Eagle one at the end, we had piss-ants in when we were ahead. We steam-rolled thru the playoffs and the 37-24 SB wasn't even close to the scoreboard.

The 91 team was the one that Madden(the next season) said wasn't that good, there just wasn't much competition lmao. That's when I totally lost respect for Madden.

Our only real loss that season was the the Pukes(figures) and they beat us by succeeding on a few trick plays as I recall. Stuff like fake field goals etc...

I think we were 10-0 at the time. The other loss was to the Eagles the last week of the season. We pulled our starters, or didn't play the majority of them because we already had the loss and homefield. Without that Fluke win by Dallas, we likely would have gone undefeated that season and beat the Dolphins in the record book cause of the extended season and extended playoffs.

Best teams ever

1. 72 Dolphins
2. 85 Bears
3. 91 Skins

No way to argue against it. It just is...

amen! the '91 skins were not only one of the top 20 all-time teams, but easily one of the top 5. i remember watching each of those games, and it was just like "how badly are we going to destroy this team today?" the running game was overpowering. the passing game lit it up (remember "The Posse"?). the defense was just devastating (they called it "The National Defense"). not to mention the special teams (brian mitchell had several KR TDs, for one thing).

i'd put the '91 skins up against any other team in history.
