Drew Brees

every where i look, ESPN analyst say the Redskins will go after this guy. i hope to god we dont. Drew Brees is just another one hit wonder playing well is his contract year. and even if he isnt another one hit wonder, and we get a good player out of him, Dan Snyder is going to give him a 6 year 50 million dollar contract ( just like Brunell) and we will not be able to sign any role players. DE, DT, G, C... or draft picks. if they would just put Ramsey in, then everyone would know we dont need Drew Brees.

Brees has one more year left on his contract correct? Or is he a free agent after this year? If he has one more year, I'm going to assume SD is going drop the franchise tag on him to get more value, if thats the case, he'll be way to much for us and to unproven for gibbs.

with rivers behind brees, i doubt they'd franchise him. maybe slap him with the transition tag, tho'.

They can franchise him so that if another team wants him, they have to pay dearly.

Wouldn't that be somewhat of a gamble, though? Suppose no team became interested in him because of the high price. I know that QB's are in pretty high demand in the NFL, but it might be something that SD thinks twice about before doing.

Then again, I'm having a hard time thinking of any case where a team used that tactic and it came back to hurt them, so you could be right. . .

I like Brees this year but he hasn't performed like this in previous years. I'd be scared to take a chance on him after this season because I'm not sure this is the real Drew Brees.

And plus, how would we bring him in? Would we get rid of Brunell? Would we get rid of Ramsey?

The SD sports talk guys have the Chargers placing a franchise tag on him and trading him. They all hate the fact that Brees will be gone next year and SD will end up like Cincy this year, going from a vet who is playing well to an unproven 2nd year guy. I don't think we stand a chance to get Brees (thank god) because Smoot will be our big signing this offseason. Also to release Brunell we take a huge cap hit. I predict Ramsey starts next year with Boonell riding pine as it were.

all i have to say to this topic is
NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!! he is a freakin' one year wonder.
not to say he might turn out to be a good Q.B. but we would have to give up something to get him.

SD will be gambling if they franchise him and can't trade him. He could sign a on year tender for 9 million + they would still have Rivers making millions.

I heard that SD will probably just let him leave.

I can't see the Skins signing him after giving Brutnell $43 million.

This is the final year of his contract. He will be an unrestricted Free Agent after this season. I will take a $800 bet on anyone here that the Mighty Dolphins will sign him. 8) (They need to, at least)

This rumor has nothing to do with the fact that we might or might not be looking for a new QB next season. Everybody just assumes that if there is a big FA hitting the market, Snyder will be one of the first guys opening his wallet.

Exactly!!

I dont want this guy coming here looking to get paid and hanging out with Gardner in the clubs.

Hey Jake, if we bring Brees in, you can kiss Ramsey goodbye. We're stuck with Brunell. Gibbs obviously doesn't appear to be the biggest Ramsey fan....so my bet is he'll be kicked to the curb.

That wouldn't be good. Ramsey has potential. He's a rookie.

OK, I'm a little cyncical, but I never believe the analysts. They dont get paid unless they have "news" to report or promote.

This thread has a whole bunch of speculations about one speculation.

Brees bubble will burst before the end of the season. That will be the end of that.

Joe has good material to work with here. I will leave it at that.

ok, Mr. Snyder PLEASE repeat after me:

S - T - A - B - I- L - I - T - Y

Skip the thought of bringing in yet another new quaterback, concentrate on getting offensive linemen, and one really good pass rusher.

I don't know why all the experts are saying that brees will get the franchise tag. If he gets tagged that means he has to be paid within the top 5 of his position and for qb's that's gonna be a lot of money for mr. brees. And i doubt any team would be willing to trade for him at that price. So i see him just leaving the chargers as a free agent

No more "somebody else's headache" jobs, please. Let's get some homegrown talent to work here.

They have tons of cap room I believe so that if they do franchise him and he stays they can afford him.

The Chargers are sitting pretty with two good QB's at their disposal. I wonder what that feels like???

I wouldn't mind it if we found a way to get Phillip Rivers. 8) Maybe the Chargers could keep Brees and we take Rivers off their hands.

I thought that the Chargers gave up on him too soon and that they didn't need to draft a QB. Drew would be a good pick-up for anyone, but are you guys sure that your problem is the QB? Isn't your O-Line pretty bad? It's hard for a QB to suceed if he doesn't have time to throw.
