The "Call"

Okay, was anyone else out there really really scared that Spurrier elected to go for it on 4th down deep in Redskins territory? I mean, it was a matter of inches...and I thought we'd get it....but, I ask you...

DOES THIS GUY HAVE A SET OF BALLS OR WHAT?

I can't say that I officially "agree" with that decision...but (and hindsight is 20-20), it turned out to be the call that helped us win the game.

Maybe this was the spark the Skins needed?

Well, the defense surely wasn't going to hold them to a 3 and out.

They're so undisciplined its ridiculous. I used to love watching the D, now I'm scared when we don't score cus our D isn't a sure thing like it used to be.

I was screaming "NOOOOOOO" but of course was happy we got it. Still not a good call under normal circumstances. It either means he has loads of faith in his offense or none in his defense.

Well, up to that point, Seattle really hadn't done too much to stop the run, at least to a non gainer. With Rock running, we didn't have a single negative running play, so it wasn't as bad as all that. Helluva hit he had to take though - that LB is ferocious.

The 'call' was just plain dumb and I don't care how it turned out. Tie game... late... just outside your own red zone and you go for it?

It's easy to dismiss because it worked but if it hadn't, it would have inevitably buried this franchise even further.

IMO, it wasn't 'balls'y at all, it was desperate and irresponsible... thankfully, it worked out.

As I stated in a previous post...this coach will win if he is given time to adjust!!! I sure hope Snyder can exercise a little patience.

GREAT GAME

Boss your right the call was desperate and so is the state of this organization!! Spurrier probably went for it because he has no confidence in the defense...if you kick and their offense comes down and scores then the outcome remains the same

A LOSS

It is a matter of outcomes, last week the coach made the right call and was crucified for it because the defense could not stop dallass(choosing not to onside kick). This week he gambles and it looks great because he made it.

What happens if he goes for it and we lose because of the call??????????????

I think the 4th down call was a good one. Our offense would have lost all of their steam if they had another 3 & out. The crowd would have been out of it too. Rock had no negative plays. It was obvious what we were going to do, and we did it. The call wouldn't have been made against Tampa, Dallas, or Buffalo, but against the soft Seattle line, it was a good call. I like what I saw from our offense yesterday. We'll definitely need some confidence if we're even going to score next week. That Carolina D might eat us alive. I hope Ramsey survives.

I think it was a dumb call for one reason. The officials. The refs hate us. They almost always give us horrible spots. So for this very reason I held my breathe until the officials called for the chains to be moved.

lets face it. don't you think spurrier knew what would be the result if the call didn't work? at this level, someone has to be plain retarded to call a play like that without knowing its implications. i wouldn't call it irresponsible if he did it knowingly. that needed guts! that meant that he was willing to accept the result whichever way it turned out. it is 50-50 no matter how much confidence you have on your offense or how much confidence you don't have on your defense. to still go for it, well, i'd say that is quintessential spurrier.

At this point, the 'Skins have nothing to lose. We have to take risks. We'd be fools not to. If we were 7-1, we wouldn't have done it. It was a good call. It gave our guys confidence in themselves and their coaches.

It's only a good call if we make it - Praise the Lord we did! If we hadn't - ooooooohhhh daddy, now that's a different story. In the same situation I would kick 99 times out of a hundred, just good football sense.

I agree... but there is a saying - "Desperate times call for desperate measures"

If this team pulls the nards out of the fire, this may be the point where everyone looks back and calls Spurrier a genius.

I happened to agree with the call simply because to surrender the ball and depend on the defense to not lose too much time watching the other team walk down the field when George switched to his "bend but don't break" theory of defense would have been more foolhardy at that time in the game.

Spurrier showed his guys he believed in them and they responded. The morale went up on that team tenfold at that point and twentyfold with the win.

If we punted and the Hawks had managed a field goal with 2:00 left, there is no telling what would have happened.
