Gibbs is back to defending Brunell. He says that its not that he doesnt trust brunell by not calling pass plays, but that the run game was doing so well that he didnt think that they could score on our D-fense. So basically Brunell is going to start next week.

Basically Joe is starting to piss me off

If brunell sucks it up again this week at home, I think the crowd will be even more unruly then the Green Bay Game. It won't be pleasant.

Not exactly the truth.
He makes SMART throws..and that is what Gibbs likes and that is why he is staying with him right now.

I'll say it again. That is a standard Joe Gibbs press conference. He never bashes a player in public. Gibbs always takes the blame himself. Gibbs always won with good players, but not all-star players. They always played beyond their abilities because they were playing for Gibbs. He always defends his players. That's part of his method, and he wins with it.

In the old days, you danced with who brung you. Whether this plan will still work is questionable.
If you can't find anything else positive to look at, try this. The old man is really bringing this team together. There's no finger-pointing (except for that one Portis deal). There's no Westbrook, beating the hell out of our starting RB in camp. Things are being dealt with calmly, maturely and patiently.
So far, so good. Joe knows.

why is this a surprise ??? he is too loyal to his Q.B.'S even when they have the worst Q.B. rating in the nfc ....much less the nfl.

tcwest is right, Joe Nose. Ramsey is learning on the sideline, instead of being thrown to the wolves. Ramsey's confidence is low after Spurrier and a lousy pre-season.

Putting him in too early, could ruin his career (see Rick Mirer, Joey Harrington, Brian Griese, Shaun King, etc...)

okay here it goes.....Brunell would've had about 150yds in sunday's game, but about 5 of his incompletions were dropped, I saw gardner drop 2 and coles drop a couple also..he is not that bad...he threw good balls sunday, they were just dropped....

but with that said, I do think that Ramsey should start..

Count me in - I want to see Pat get a chance at showing he's the future.

I also have faith in Joe! He's the coach and he makes the decisions. I do not know why he wants to stay with Mark but that is his call and I totally support him.

There is a vast improvement over last year. We do not have a great team (it's a good team!) but Joe & the coaches are getting a lot out of who is on the field and if that means I have to be tolerant - I can handle it.

I understand where a lot of you want a change and I also question the reasons for not changing QB's right now, BUT this team is still getting better and that means he gets a mulligan from me!

exactly right... Joe is looking for the slow and steady course, throw the ball away, approach right now because the defense can win games against these teams we're playing right now... as soon as we play someone who can put up points, and we have to pass, we'll see Ramsey...

About the point of receivers dropping balls......hmmmmm....didn't happen with Patrick. I believe maybe the balls are dropped because it's been so damned long that a receiver actually held/saw/touched one they are surprised and in a state of disbelief that it has actually been THROWN to them. They ARE used to watching a runner cruise by holding one, or perhaps getting one on a reverse, but having one ARRIVE IN THE AIR from this colostomy bag of a quarterback is akin to getting hit by lightning for them. It just doesn't happen.....

I would take it one step further, and say that not only are the receivers not used to having balls thrown their way, but that because Brunell has less zip on his passes than a pair of button-fly Levis, the defenders are hitting those receivers immediately. DBs have so much time between when the ball is thrown, and when it arrives (sometimes) at it's destination, that they can play soft coverage and make up the ground in time to break up the pass, or force a drop. Receivers are NEVER getting the ball in open space, not because they don't create separation, but because that window closes fast when the pass floats there like a gentle summer breeze.

What I noticed more than dropped passes was Brunell consistantly throwing behind his receivers and sailing passes over their heads. There was one particular play that I remember, where Coles was wide open in the middle of the field, and Brunell threw the ball behind him and missed out on at least a 20 yard gain. Not only did he miss Coles, but if the safety had been in proper position he would've taken Coles' head off as he turned back across his body to make an attempt on the ball. Simply put, Brunell doesn't have the arm anymore to make the necessary passes. He has to compensate for the lack of arm strength by trying to throw harder and that reuslts in inaccurate passes. There is no way for the passing game to improve unless Brunell can start making throws, and it's blatantly clear that he just doesn't have the necessary physical tools to do so. The pass protection is good enough and the receivers are open....the qb play is clearly what's holding back the offense.

not only that, but also with no ability to throw downfield with any accuracy, the defense can play single coverage on the receivers if they go deep. this leaves more defenders in the box, and makes life difficult for portis. if you have a qb who can stretch the field with his arm (like ramsey can), i think you'll see more holes open up for portis and the running game. right now, i think defenses are playikng to stop the run until brunnell can prove that he can beat them.

the only reason we beat detroit was because the running game was working, even without a threat of a passing game. I doubt we'll meet many more teams that we can run over like that.

Good point!!! I see Gardner open and the DB got there the sametime the ball got there and the ball was Jammed loose for an incompletion.
