Position by Position Assessment

We are about half way through the season. I would like some knowledgeable insight into each area of the team; who will most likely play for us next year, and more important, who will likely be gone. This team obviously has some big weaknesses on offense so let's start there. I know QB is a big issue but it isn’t the only problem area. I welcome your input.

Well I will start @ RB considering that the QB issues are obvious.

RB we are solid...

Portis is great...In my opinion

Betts is trash

Rock proved he is @ least a valiant backup last season.

Moton gets a free paycheck because he does NOTHING!!!

WR-

Coles has the potential to be a top 5 WR in the league, but he is inconsistent.

Gardner baffles me...He will drop a slant, but catch a ball thats 7 feet in the air in a crowd of 6 defenders...He needs to step his game up BIG TIME...He was drafted over the likes of Santana Moss, Reggie Wayne, Steve Smith and Chris Chambers...All of who are leathal on the field...Oh and he probably WILL be back next season.

McCants is my boi...I have no clue why he isnt playing...And the Browns game he wasnt even active..

Jacobs has impressed me...I hate Uni. of Florida so Jacobs was in my personal dog house...But he has made some big and pretty catches.

TE/FB/HBACK-

Cooley is on his way to becoming a star...

Royal...I dont know too much about...He droped a TD yesterday  which is never good.

Sellers- Gained too much wieght...Not the ST stud he was in his frist stint here.

Baxter/Kaslowski- Dont know

OLINE-

Samuels is over-rated

Dockery's upside aint lookin too good

Raymer- Needs to retire

Thomas- May be the best guard in the NFC East

Ray Brown- Give it up

John Jansen- BOOKEND

I THINK EVERYONE WILL BE BACK NEXT YEAR...EXCEPT BROWN...RAYMER...AND BETTS...Samuels may get the royal Bailey treatment...Sign and Trade 8)

Dreaded are you kidding?? John Jansen is hurt. He is an awesome player not a BOOK END. He isn't even in there right now. And when he comes back he will make a world of difference.

Kaslowski is gone.

Raymer has done a pretty consistent job. He needs to work on th penalties but he is deserving of his position.

Ok I'm going to stop now because I do not agree with half of what you said and I'd be here all day.

The O line played horribly but I'm wondering if throwing in a right hander could help accenuate our better players and give the weaker ones a break.

NikiH, First of all I enjoy your posts, don't always agree, but we're all in this together, so I gotta tell you, Bookend is a good thing. Ok. That said, I agree with your other observations. For this guy to say Betts is trash is a mystery to me, and like you I would have a hard time finding a stopping place, if I commented on all of his post, so I'll leave it at that.

Oh ok gregory thanks. I had no idea it was a good thing. But I was baffled why he was in that assessment at all, just because he is not playing. I agree about Betts btw, he is no Portis but no team can use only one back. Not to mention he did ok with returns yesterday didn't he?? That alone is a good thing. Having no back up put us in a bad position in past seasons.

If I am correct, a bookend is a DE who is very good next to another very good DE, such as;
Darren Howard - Charles Grant
Jason Taylor - Adewale Ogunleye
Mike Rucker - Julius Peppers

OK folks...I stated earlier that Betts was good on special teams...Well 1st things 1st...we have a KR...2nd is Rock is a better back than Betts...he shined on every chance he has gotten...3rd...Betts should have been cut insted of Kenny Watson...I guess I have a grudge against him...But yall are actin like Betts has accounted for anything possitive this year...

Like I said B4 he missed the block on Ed Reed...End result: sack, fumble, touchdown....and...Brunny throws a swing pass to him...Jerry Azuma picks it off...7 points...Betts gave a half hearted chase on both occasions to try and chase down the defender to stop a TD...If indeed he would have made a serios effort on either one of the plays, he MAY have forced a fumble...Similar to what Coles did last year againt Seattle...If yall like seeing the # 2 RB look dazed, confused, and lost then I was wrong... Betts is the man. [-(

@ Smithian

U got the gist of whata bookend is...but its more that just DEs...

If u dominate ur end of the field...U are considered bookend.

Wow !!! Morton doesn't play much on offense ... but he's a key special team player. There's a huge drop off in our kickoff and punt return areas when he's out.

A bookend is a term that can also describe tackles on
offense as well as defensive ends.

Morton has not been very effective this year as a returner. Returning kicks, he is in the middle of the pack amoung NFC returners, averaging 22.4 yards a return. On punts, however, he has been terrible. He is avergaing 6.2 yards a ruturn, and his longest punt reutn this year has been 14 yards, which is second wost in the NFC among reurners with 10 or more attempts. Part of this can be blamed on the coverage, but Morton is certainly not performing at a level equal with the amount of money that he is being paid. I would love to see the Skins cut him in the offseason.

Morton is no Daunte Hall, but he is decent.

Kick returns he is ranked 20th, behind cliff russell, we should have kept him:)

Punt returns he's 19th? Longest return 14 yards. Not exactly setting the world on fire for such a high priced guy.
