Why didn't we just keep Simon? He had a bit of size to him, and I thought he played better than McCullough during the preseason anyway (especially in the last game).

We did keep him. He's on I.R. Check TheHogs.net's official roster and transaction log. That's what they are ther for.

Practice Squad Move: Diedrick Signed
By Gary Fitzgerald

October 27, 2004

The Redskins have signed running back Dahrran Diedrick to the team's practice squad, the team announced on Wednesday.
To make room for Diedrick, the Redskins released running back Sultan McCullough.

Diedrick, 6-0 and 225 pounds, signed with the Green Bay Packers in January 2004 after two stints on the Packers practice squad in 2003. He had been released in August.

Diedrick originally signed with the San Diego Chargers as an undrafted rookie free agent in May 2003. He ended his career at Nebraska with 2,745 yards, eighth best in Cornhusker history, on 502 carries (5.4 average). He posted 26 touchdowns.

McCullough spent the first seven week of the 2004 campaign on the Redskins' practice squad. He was on the team's 53-man roster all last season, playing in one game in Week 9 against the Dallas Cowboys. He had one rush for nine yards and caught three passes for 13 yards.

McCullough, a USC product, had signed with the Redskins in April 2003 as an undrafted free agent.

I'm a little mad that we cut my boy McCullough but he probably didn't want to stay here too badly. I think someone MAY pick him up but the chances are probably slim given that no one has snatched him up from our practice squad. I think we'll cut Diedrick next week and bring back McCullough. That's the pattern.

Sorry, Jake. I know that you and the other mods do work hard to keep that up to date--I could have sworn that we cut him at the end of preseason (maybe resigned him, before putting on IR?), because I remember being upset that we did so. Next time I'll do a quick check on the roster page.

He won't get any playing time. He was signed to the practice squad for nothing more than info on the Pack's offense.

We have Ladell and Rock for goaline situations.

If that was true, and I was him, I would have asked for a $50,000 signing bonus or better--easy way to make a year's worth of living. . .

With Westbrook injured in Philly look for Mccullogh to be picked up by them.

Why did they get rid of him? He was one of the better RBs during the pre-season and would probably have done well given the chance. Do you think this is an attitude thing with him? He got a little worked up when it was announced he was going to the practice squad...

Three reasons I can come up with are:

- No need for 2 RB's on the PS.

- Sultan didn't really want to be on the Skins PS b/c he felt he could play well elsewhere.

- He probably won't be picked up by another team so we may bring him back next week.

Diedrick is a good back.
Came out of Nebraska's power running game, and of course a fellow Canadian.
I think he could really fit into this offense. He is a bigger back, but also has that break away speed.
