Two Former WVU Football Players Arrested

GLENVILLE, W.Va. -- Two former West Virginia football players are under arrest for allegedly robbing a supermarket.
Travis Garvin and Alvoid Mays who later played for six seasons in the NFL, were being held Monday in the Central Regional Jail in Flatwoods, each on $200,000 bond, State Police spokesman Sgt. Jay Powers said.
Authorities say one of the men held up two clerks at gunpoint Friday night in Glenville, and demanded money from the store's registers and safe. He was picked up by the other man in a compact car, but they crashed it after they were followed by Glenville police, Powers said.
The men fled into the woods but were ultimately arrested and the recovered money was returned to the store, Powers said.
The 25-year-old Garvin, of Bradenton, Fla., was a wide receiver for the Mountaineers from 2002 to 2003. Mays, 38, of Palmetto, Fla., was a defensive back on West Virginia's 1988 team that played for the national championship in the Fiesta Bowl, then played for the Washington Redskins and Pittsburgh Steelers.

How long do you have to be in the NFL to get a pension??? I know O.J. collects something like $300K a year...is it based on age/years played? You would think he'd be getting some kind of residual income and wouldn't have to rob a stinkin' grocery store.

I'll bet he was wearing his old Skins jersey with his name on the back and a mask.

Alvoid Mays. There's a name I haven't heard in years.
Sadly, he must've never planned for life after football, or else this type of nonsense would never have the opportunity to happen.
You're only immortal for a couple of years, you know.

Stouff, You are assuming people in WVA can read the name on his jersey.
We are almost getting to the point of being able to put together a prison team to rival the Cowgirls.
Pay-per-view anyone? The longest yard part 2
Yankees suck

It's true they get a pension, I think you have to be in the league for 4 years to qualify.

I might be mistaken, but your pension increases significantly for each season in which you're active at least 10 or 8 games (something like that). This is supposed to be a big deterent for people like O-gun, McCardell, and McKenzie to hold out for a full season. I'd assume it coresponds to the trade deadline so hold outs can be traded and still meet the required number of games. If anyone knows more I'd be interested to hear it.
