Will Brunell still be around after Sunday's game?

Here's the thing. I agree with Jake in his "warning" post. The Bears are hardly that bad. This is IN their place (not that we've been spectacular in Washington, but anyway...),and we're facing a team that WHOOPED the Packers. Is this going to be an easy game? Heck no.
The question is,what will happen to Brunell after this game?
My prediction,if we win,he'll probably keep his job because we'll start the upward climb to success.
If we lose,he'll probably play half of the remaining games.

What I see happening to Brunell after this game is
1. If we win it means we've made adjustments that have helped the passing game (the receivers aren't being blanketed a Mark can find them downfield or the back coming out of the backfield) and Burnell may continue as the starter, however there is no lock that he'll be the man after the by week.
2. If we lose it means more adjustments will be needed to correct the offensive woes and that would send Mark to the sidelines and Ramsey onto the field.
I've been saying for almost a week that this will be Brunells best game as a Redskin QB(mostly to Jag/Brunell Fans) because I believe this will be his last game as a Redskin QB. I think Joe Gibbs made up his mind Sunday night that it was time to make a switch. Had this been the bye week Ramsey would have gotten all the snaps with the 1st team offense during the week and thats what I see happening next week. I believe this will happen win or lose tommorrow

This is the game...If Brunell can't get it done against one one the worst pass defenses in the NFL Gibbs has two weeks to prepare Ramsey for GB

The bye week is the Key Gibbs wouldn't throw Patrick in there with just a week (5 days really) to get him ready

We should have been playing Ramsey all along. I know Brunell won the competition in the pre-season, but I don't think there should have even been a competition. Ramsey should have been the starter from the moment Gibbs was hired. What does it say to the incumbent when the first move the new coach makes is to bring in your replacement? I love and respect Joe, but that was a bonehead move. The best way to get Patrick up to speed is to put him in the fire and let him get game experience. We might still be 1-4, but Ramsey would have 5 more games of NFL experience, and we would be prepping him for a run next season.

I agree with JSPB22 that Ramsey should have started and "put in the fire". There's only so much he can learn just watching from the bench.
When Ramsey's been in to replace Brunell: it's true he's made some bone-headed interceptions, but the kid's a rookie. Plus Brunell's passing ability beyond 20 yards is abominable. He just can't do it with any degree of accuracy and has to throw his whole body weight into getting any distance (degrading the accuracy).
So, with the running offense, what is a good argument for Brunell being in there? OK, he can read the field quicker and more accurately than Ramsey has shown so far, but with the majority of the plays being runs with a few screen passes, I don't think that argument is strong enough to justify Brunell leading the O-line. When we need to go deep, Brunell cannot deliver.
What's a good argument for Ramsey being in there? The kid can throw deep with accuracy. He can surely hand off and keep the run going. He takes hits that make any man whince but he keeps on trucking.

JSP,
while I thought the same thing when Brunell was brought in, I don't think so now. Brunell is sucking, but Gibbs didn't know he was going to suck. All Joe had to go on was game film and probably other peoples opinions. Obviously old game tape showed a good QB, and I'm sure people told Joe he could still play. He's only in his 9th year afterall. Just happens that Brunell doesn't have the same arm he used to.
PRam will get in there eventually, and then we'll start seeing some Joe Gibbs football.

Ok it's not his best game as a Skin... I stand by the rest of my statement

Gibbs will study the tapes. He and (Breaux and Bugel and the rest) do that better than anyone.
Is it the OL?
Is it receivers?
Were there plays to be made, open receivers that Brunnell missed? If so, Gibbs will see.

Umm, yes he did miss open receivers...as usual. Gibbs and everybody else has already seen that, but still standing by him. Why? I have no idea.

Gibbs feels Ramsey doesn't know how to throw the ball away
Brunell showed him how to do that today...repeatedly

A few comments from Gibbs after the game today about Mark Brunell....
We aren't getting the ball downfield, we took a few shots but we haven't been able to connect
Maybe we rushed Mark back from that hamstring injury so we'll have to see
He knows how to get rid of the ball, when there is nothing there he knows how to throw it away

I'm sure Gibbs wanted Mark to have a good game so there wouldn't be as many questions about Brunell/Ramsey over the bye week...so much for that. Gibbs now has a decision to make.

I still think he's ready to make the switch but he didn't sound like it after the game.
He said nothing about a change but he mentioned things that Brunell does right that just happen to be the issuses with Ramsey
1. Doesn't hold onto the ball to long
2. Called him mobile
3. Doesn't force the ball
4. Will throw it away
But 2 games in a row throwing for less than 100 yards ......
I hope he's ready to make the switch

Hopefully watching the tape will clarify this for Gibbs. Our offense was on the mark this week with one exception Brunnell. And he showed he's capable of playing like an NFL qb in the first quarter, so there are no excuses. And not one other person to blame this on. Hopefully that will give Gibbs no choice but to hold Brunnell accountable.

My point was that, if Ramsey truly is our QB of the future, then get him in there and let him take his lumps now, so that he is getting game experience, and will be able to lead this offense in the coming seasons. Brunell's future with the team is limited to 1 (maybe 2) more seasons, and if Ramsey is still on the bench, we will have nothing to show for it.

yea, we wouldn't want to try a cause a spark for this terrible offense.
But I am glad to know that you have inside info directly from the source.

A "statement of the blindingly obvious":
- Gibbs studies the tapes closely. He sees the players practice. He knows more about them than we do.
- Gibbs will start whichever player will win. He has no favorites, no committment to make the front office look good, or even to blunder ahead with his own choice if he finds he made a mistake.
- Gibbs is the most soft-spoken, thoughtful coach in modern sports, but underneath, he is all steel. He is as tough as any blustering coach.
- Gibbs has been studying the offense. He dropped Rasby and Jones. He will probably modify the plays a bit. He will then evaluate Brunnell against Ramsey.
- If Ramsey deserves to start, he will.
- Gibbs hates to lose.

Guess what? Brunell doesn't win anymore. So, as so stated "a statement of the blindingly obvious", Ramsey should be starting. Hell, even Hassleback would be better at this point.
