Ramsey may never start

This is from Pro Footbal talk so it's probably BS.

GIBBS DOESN'T LIKE RAMSEY

With starting quarterback Mark Brunell struggling in Joe Gibbs' offense, many folks are wondering when Gibbs will put Brunell's butt on the bench.

But even though Brunell threw for only 83 yards in Sunday night's loss to the Ravens, Gibbs is sticking by the guy whom the team signed in the offseason to a seven-year, $43 million contract with an $8.6 million signing bonus.

"There's a temptation there," the Redskins coach said Wednesday. "And you see it all the time. 'Let's change a person because it's an easy thing to do.' I want to do what's right. Right now, Mark's the guy."

Though we previously believed that Gibbs wouldn't bench Brunell because doing so would represent an admission that the team erred by signing the former Jacksonville starter, we're now hearing that Gibbs is sticking with Brunell because Gibbs simply doesn't like Brunell's understudy, Patrick Ramsey.

As one league source told us, Gibbs doesn't believe Ramsey can be successful, and Gibbs doesn't like Ramsey's "cocky attitude." Ramsey, per the source, will never be the starter, and the source expects that Ramsey won't be with the team come 2005.

so does that mean we should have traded him when we had the chance ?? if he is not our furture and with no hope of play time ...why keep him ?? we could have got something for him now he'll be cut and we lose out. :(
so we should just accept the fact that brunell is it unless he gets hurt. :?:

Joe T wasn't cocky?

Brandon, I agree with the BS assessment. I do not think they would have kept PR if they did not want him OR think that he could be a contributor. There must have been some discussion about what they could get (and they needed a lot!) but the potential/upside must have (IMO) outweighed that decision.

I think that this guy is twisting the facts to suit his story and is not the case at all. I actually think Ramsey will start soon BUT Brunell will be given an opportunity first. I also believe that Patrick will start as soon as Gibbs thinks that is the best for the team - even if Mark wins!!

This source is ridiculous, Gibbs before the season started said that Ramsey in the future was going to win a bunch of games for them and that he thought big about Ramsey. So Ramsey will be the redskins QB of the future and thatñs the reality.

It says "one league source".

Journalistic integrity usually prohibits a writer from writing a story before they have corroberated that story, meaning more than one source. This source could be a janitor from the Arizona Cardinals. What a load of crap.

Believe nothing until you see it.

OK, that's a bit of a generalization...how about: ignore rumors. It might well be that Gibbs has taken a long, deep, look at Ramsey, and put Ramsey where he thinks Ramsey belongs. Gibbs does not play to lose.

It might, as well, be that Gibbs thinks Ramsey needs to sit and learn before he plays.

We won't know, because Gibbs never criticizes people in public. That's his style. Parcells always used to badger his best players, like Phil Simms, in public -- just to fire them up. Gibbs will do that in private. He won't chamnge his style.

Wait...see what happens.

If it's from profootballtalk.com, then it's BS! Anyone who believes anything that this site produces has major issues.

How is Ramsey cocky? He's not cocky

All lies. If Gibbs didn't like Ramsey, then why not trade him to Miami for O-Gun or a 1st round draft pick? He didn't, because he knows Ramsey is the future of the Skins.

I've never heard Ramsey was y, but what if he was? Riggins, Theisman, Manley, Gibbs coached these guys. C'mon. Besides that, to succeed in sports you need a certain amount of athletic arrogance. Hey, that sounds better than y.

Thanks Jake! I was not aware of their rep. but this just did not make sense based on how our coach treats his players.

Why does everyone feel Ramsey is the answer? He has not shown any moxie. I understand this is a new offense but he knew just like everyone else that Brunell was coming here. If that didn’t put a fire under his butt to get it together and learn the system and lead this team I don’t know what will. All Preseason he looked lost, has not shown he can read defenses and besides taking a good hit shows no leadership ability. If he wants to play QB here he needs step up and earn it. The skins are losing and it’s an excellent time for him to step up and show that he is ready. He needs to stay late every night learning how to read defenses, picking up the offense and picking Gibbs brain apart on the intricacies of this offense. He had a chance in the Giants game to EARN his position. It was the perfect opportunity to never let Brunell see the field again. The team needed him. He got in there and failed. Failed the team, failed the coaches, and failed himself. Every time I see Ramsey name on this board I grit my teeth b/c everyone wants to give him the QB position. Ramsey should earn it until he does that he won’t respect it so he needs to stay on the bench until he wants to play!

Welcome to the board!

All very valid points, but Ramsey does not decide by desire OR ability! THE coach will know when Patrick is ready. THE coach will know when he is going to be our leader. Ramsey is still on our team because THE coach wants him here.

I really think that Patrick is our future. He just has to wait until THE coach, or fate, hands him that job.

What a bunch of c$@p!

The fact that -anybody- takes the above ridiculously invented gossip as anything other than that amazes me.

Joe has coached people with big and small egoes, quiet and loud voices, flamboyant and humble personalities, spot-light-seekers and business-like attitudes.

He has had NASCAR drivers with radically different personalities too!!!

One of his trademarks is his ability to coach people with -different- backgrounds and attitudes.

As far as Gibbs possibly considering Patrick "cocky", well ... It is preposterous that either Patrick is that kind of person (on the contrary) or that Joe would describe one his players as such.

Please do not bring to our attention such garbage from the gutter of third class media establishments.

Exactly the coach will know. But the only way he will know is when Ramsey shows some initiative in game preparation. That’s doing what you need to do while you are not starting to play like you are a starter when you get your shot. He had his shot in pre-season and in the Giants game. He didn’t take advantage. Gibbs is not going to hand the job to anybody.

I think we are both on the same page.

My point was only that I think Patrick is the QB of the future AND that Gibbs kept him because of his potential and in case anything happened to Mark.

I am not worried about his game with the Giants OR in the pre season as IMO that was not indicative of his talent. That will come soon. I think Gibbs likes the potential in Patrick.

I am looking forward to seeing him play, to his abilities, in Gibbs system.

And how would you guys feel about profootballtalk.com if they were somehow praising the redskins? Would it be BS then? Once again its panic time. I would like to see you guys just once not overreact to every single piece of negative publicity regarding the redskins.

Once a media organization has done something like this, I have no respect for -all- of their opinions. So, they can praise Dallas or lie about it all they want. It does not mean anything to me. It is garbage.

A lie must be called a lie in all circumstances. But when it comes to difamation of a person's character, it is worse. Do not play their game. Once, it will be your turn.

Oh, Jesus.
Fat Lenny again.
Joe likes Patrick. Joe would never get up there and lie to everybody. He just doesn't think that Patrick is ready to go. He's too weird yet.
He reminds of Jeff George in some ways. Great arm, happy feet and no brain to speak of.
Yet.

well patrick,

it's not panic time first of all. We got Gibbs back, and while many were posting high expectations for this season, the fact remained, Gibbs has to get his guys, has to get his very complicated offense worked in, and has to work his rust off. All of that takes time, and the full effect of it probably won't be seen until next season.

As far as overreacting to bad press about the skins....First, Skins fans are for the most part, diehard fans. Especially on this list. We live and die every single sunday. We've been bad for a very long time now. Just about EVERY article about the skins from start to finish since Gibbs retired has been bad press. After absorbing so much hatred from the press over the years, don't you think you'd overreact as well? Heck, our own guys, Wilbon, Kornheiser and Theismann have all bashed on us almost every chance they got thru the years...

The skins have never gotten any respect. Two things that stick with me and always will. Gibbs going to 4 superbowls and winning 3 from 83-92. That's a ten year span. The 49ers won 4 superbowls from 80-90. All the media ever talked about was how the 80's belonged to the 49ers. I never once heard a single media guy say anything about the skins winning their superbowls, or their dominance thru those times.

The 2nd thing was the year we set the scoring mark in a season and won the superbowl. After the game, one of the things Madden said was that washington wasn't THAT good of a team, there just wasn't much competition in the league that year.

That kinda stuff is standard for us washington fans, and if the pukes were ever treated like the skins are by the media, you'd never ever hear the end of it. Half the puke fans would abort since half of them are band guys anyway, and the rest of you would bitch and moan every chance you got. At least we keep our bitching to ourselves. Remember, this is a Redskins board you are on, not a puke board.

It's pretty hard to learn anything unless your out there playing. His performance against the G-men didn't help his cause though. I still would rather take my chances with PR over Bruny.
