This is 1981 all over again. The exact same things were being said after Gibbs lost his first five games in 1981. I'd love to see what these writers say after we start firing on all cylinders.

JPF - when they do write something that makes sense, please let us all know, because I will not waste my time reading this stuff. This guy claims he knows Joe, but I sense from this article that he does not. And to compare Bill B with Joe is ludicrous.

I just cannot get myself to like either of the "bill" coaches. One I respect the other still has to earn it, IMO.

I don't understand this notion coming from Redskins fans that Joe Gibbs is perfect. You guys are just like athletes that thank god for everything good that happens and blame someone else for everything bad that happens. You can't have it both ways. If Gibbs is the reason they're winning, then he is the reason they're losing.

not everyone is protecting gibbs... its a team sport every single person on the burgundy and gold sideline is to blame for the l's and w's, not everything is gibbs fault, and then alot of stuff is his fault, just due to our bias we would rather not talk about the things that gibbs has done wrong

I find nothing wrong with this article. It is okay to critize and still be a fan. The author didn't compare gibbs to bill b, he said that fear worked for bill b and could work for gibbs. It seams that as soon as anything critical comes out, people just ignore it as lunacy. Point out one thing in this article that is wrong...

Lets begin with the heading! Its NOT all right! I'm sorry but Joe does not miss assignments or drop balls or make all these mistakes on the field. I have other issues with this article but primarily it's not constructive and I think his opinions of the coach are basically flawed in both his premise and his predictions.

I didn't know opinions could be wrong.

only if you disagree with them.

What do you disagree with here?

So how will he handle it? Knowing him the way I do (I spent three seasons covering him), he will always treat the players like men. But he also needs to instill fear, and I'm not sure he's gone there yet. It works for Parcells and it works for Bill Belichick, and it will work for Gibbs. Especially for Gibbs, because the players will know it's not some Parcells psychological act. Gibbs will not call anybody "she." He will simply start calling players in one by one, look them in the eye and challenge them. And if they don't improve, he will bench them. Then he will figure out instant replay, and then he will figure out the reduced play clock, and then he will figure out how to fool the defense. Even if it takes all night.

If you disagree with his predictions, then I guess you don't think he'll figure out how to win. Don't judge an article by the title, you have to read it entirely sometimes.

Just another reporter falling off the bandwagon.

Its actually a good acticle. He sums up how I'm sure a lot of us felt, after each loss and he saying that gibbs will find a way to win if you read the article.

This was to be expected and anybody who thought otherwise would be mistaken. There's no need to panic people. Let's not focus on the things that have happened but what we know of our head coach. Joe WILL figure this thing out. I have the utmost confidence in him. I think the reason for the miscues for this year so far is all of the hype that came from Joe Gibbs coming back to coach this team and it's played a huge roll in the mindset of this team. I think the team is trying too hard instead of just trying to go out and have fun. The media has been inundated with what Joe will do for this team and blah blah blah. The players are so engrossed with what they SHOULD DO that they can't do what they CAN DO. I disagree with this story because I feel it's adding something that doesn't need to be added. I'm not mad just hopeful. The Skins need to calm down and do what we all know they can do. When this happens, let our adversaries EAT DIRT!

Well, now wait a minute, Bonehead.
(Do you mind if I call you "bonehead" ?)
What if a few players read this article and realize that their shoddy play is reflecting badly on their HOF coach ? What if it motivates them to learn how to win, rather than to fall back onto the habit (and it is a habit) of losing ?
You know, it isn't all X's and O's, folks. There's a mindset here in old DC that needs to be overcome.

Hey tcwest 10. Yes you can call be bonehed because I am a bonehed! :P Your post couldn't be better. That's exactly what my thoughts were. I agree totally that it's a mental thing that needs to be overcome. In a round about way we agree on this. Maybe your right. Maybe the players will read that article and take it too heart. My point was that the hype has become a problem and I think it's effected the players in a way that makes them try too hard instead of letting it come. Now the media is asking the question can Gibbs play in this NFL of today and we all know that he can. Thinking about what happened the last time Gibbs was here and focusing on that can and will cause some of the problems the Skins are having. There lies the problem with the mental miscues the team is having. But thats just my humble opinion. Let me know what you think. Peace

Changing my moniker to dipshoot - :0)
It's amazing what WINS can do to cure this stuff. Hope it happens soon!

All of this makes sense guys. Kudos to those of you questioning and kudos also to those of you defending. That's what this is all about. Gibbs will do better. He will. But he had better get this team on its feet soon. As in the next year or so...remember, you don't build for the future in this NFL anymore. It's for the here and now and HOPE you have young guys ready to take over.

Correct?

That philosophy has worked well for the Skins so far ...

The Patriots are currently in the process of sooting to hell the idea that you only get one shot at a Superbowl before you have to rip a team apart and start over.

The Patriots are an anomaly.
The norm is that you can't build a team to go for five years with. I mean, they have the one benchmark that most dynasties have. One really good quarterback with an even better one waiting in the wings. Remember ? Trent Green goes down, in comes Warner. Down goes Montana, in comes Young. Bledsoe gets one too many noggin knockers, in comes Brady.
That's on thing the Redskins never really had, unless you want to call Theismann a really great quarterback.
I don't. I just thought he was efficient.

The Pats are showing people how to beat the system...you need to let go of certain star players at the right time (Lawyer Milloy for example)

Can you honestly show me a situation where the Skins have done this (And not just because they overpaid for someone and had to cut him a la Jessie Armstead)

Considering what I said about the Skins' philosophy I'm pretty sure I can't.

The approach used by the Pats has been used by the Eagles for the past five years. So far the Pats have been more successful with it.

Playing in one of the worst divisions in the league is kinda nice too.... I'm not diminishing what the Pats have done... They're definetly the team to beat... but they're the way they are due to good coaching and the players buying into the whole "team" philosophy.... something the Eagles have done too... they just haven't been able to get over the hump because they play in a tougher conference...

BTP, you need to say that to the bosses at ESPN and such...they (along with the rest of sports media, think that the NFC is "weak" )

They only say that because the Pats, Colts, and Chiefs are all supposed to be great, whereas the Eagles, Seahawks, and Rams (snicker) are just "good."
