Redskins | Consider Placing Barrow on IR - from www.KFFL.com
Sat, 2 Oct 2004 08:35:38 -0700

The Associated Press reports the Washington Redskins are considering placing LB Mike Barrow (knee) on injured reserve, which would officially end his season. The team is holding out hope that Barrow's knee injury improves soon. Barrow has not played in any exhibition or regular season games this year. >>>> GOOD JOB DANNY BOY!

If I read the subject of this post correctly, there is a kind of currency known as "free agent wasted money" and now the Redskins have more of it. That's pretty damn cool.

Don't worry about Pokes4...he's not long for this place. We get a few more wins, and he'll be late for the door.

1niksder: What do you not understand son? Do you not "savy" bad free agent signings? How many seasons have you guys signed a ton of big name free agents, been handed the NFL's version of the Offseason Championship according to the national media, and not done squat? Happens every season. And to think you didn't understand my post of wasted money in free agency.

O.k., let's get real. I thought Mike Barrow was a bad idea to begin with. He was the leading tackler for the Giants last year, but they didn't want him enough to pay him decent money. To me, he was just another Trotter. Why did Snyder let Trotter go and pay more money for Barrow? Mr. Poke makes a good point in that Snyder, yet again, went after a fantasy football superstar that will never produce for the Skins. Hey, I hate that team from Texas as much as anyone possibly could, but when one of their fans makes a salient point, I have to give him props. No problem, though, as AP is getting it done big time. Let's kick the Clowns from Bleveland right in the ass!

1) Trotter was overpaid and made MORE money than Barrow.

2) Trotter hadn't lived up to expectations.

3) The injury bug affected Trotter in a big way, which wasn't his fault but it affected his play.

4) Trotter was caught out of position on many occasions on defense last year.

5) Trotter, apparently, was a locker room cancer.

6) Barrow had 148 tackles last season. Really good for a 33 year old, eh?

7) Barrow has put up numbers and skill during his 10+ years in the league but gets no attention whatsoever.

8 ) Gregg Williams has liked Barrow since their days in Houston.

Yeah, I don't think Barrow was Snyder's choice. I don't think Snyder really did much this summer except cut cheques. Williams wanted Barrow here and nobody wanted Trotter.

Putting Barrow on IR would be a smart football move. It would let him heal without feeling preasure to come back too soon. It would clear up a roster spot. And, our defense has been good without him.

This would have made since if it had been the start of the thread instead of posting something that was posted and duscussed the day before.
FYI #1 Snyder let Gibbs and his staff go out and get the players they wanted and he took a backseat this year during the free agency period, so you can't blame him for this IF it turns out bad, which it hasn't yet. Mike wasn't counted on to be the savior of this Defense he was to be a important part of it... during offseason workouts and training camp we realized that he wasn't ready to go so adjustments were made. These adjustments have been working and Barrow hasn't been needed, if he goes on IR and I think he should he won't be missed since he hasn't played all year, and will comeback next year with something to prove.
FYI #2 I'm not your son, I know how my Father is. Because you have no idea as to who yours may be and answers to it from any and everyone that calls you son I don't. Now crawl back under your rock until December

I realize that Trotter had to go, and I was aware of the points that you have made. My point was that AP and even Mitchell were doing just fine, and we didn't need Barrow. So, yes, it was good to let go of Trotter. But, remember, all of the so-called positives that Barrow was going to bring to the team, were positives that Trotter was supposed to bring when he was signed. Picking up Barrow was making yet another big mistake in free agency.

The only way to make these players accountable is to make their pay reflect their how they play on the field. If they play then they get paid if they don't then they don't get paid. If they cause fumbles or penalties then take a percentage away of their earnings. If they create plays then they get a bonus. If they get sick or hurt then they can get workmans comp.lol. Start treating this like a business if since they are acting like it is a business. Rookies should only be able to get the league minimum for the first few yrs then if they are good players then they can lobby for what stats show they should earn. STOP ALL THE SIGNING BONUSES IN THE MILLIONS!

that's a good idea VRIEL1, and I'm sure most NFL fans would like to see it. The problem is, it just can't happen in free agency. It would have to be in league rules, and the NFLPA would NEVER allow rules to mandate it. Otherwise, there will always be some team willing to pay a regular contract.
