JAMAL PLEADS GUILTY
Ravens star running back Jamal Lewis has pleaded guilty to charges arising from his impending drug trial, and he's likely to do Martha Stewart time (i.e., 4-6 months) after the coming NFL season.
The specific charge that Lewis pleaded guilty to is unclear, and there's no guarantee that the judge presiding over the case will accept the deal. The Baltimore Sun, however, reports that the lawyers are confident that the judge will accept the deal.
Still, there are specific sentencing guidelines that a judge must apply, and without knowing the charge to which he pleaded guilty and other circumstances relevant to the application of the guidelines, it's impossible to confirm that the sentencing formula will result in only 4-6 months in the hoosegow.
Lewis's bigger concern should be whether the plea jeopardizes his ability to earn a living, since he's already been suspended once for four games resulting from a violation of the substance abuse policy. When the suspension came down, he was out for the year with a torn knee ligament, so he didn't actually miss any extra time. But that suspension puts Lewis in line for a year-long sit upon his next violation of the policy.
Given that reality, we wouldn't be surprised to learn that Lewis ultimately pleaded guilty to a crime that didn't involve drugs. Though he'd never been charged with a non-drug offense, teammate Ray Lewis pleaded out of murder charges in 2000 admitting to misdemeanor charges obstructing justice.
Maybe, in the end, Jamal has reached the same kind of deal. After all, he's represented by Ed Garland -- the same lawyer who represent Ray.

I want pics of Jamal behind bars...

NC, work your magic.
I want to go to a Ravens home game this year to see if they play "Locked Up" when the offense is introduced.

Man, those Ravens are so immoral!! How could anyone root for a team who has murder charges and drug charges against their team leaders???? Same thing applies to the pies, but also add in Michael Irvins prostitution ring.

I thought the sound bite of Ray Ray telling Lewis to just block it all out and play was too funny!! Who knows better than Ray!

x 1 Billion.
Oh yea, the RedSkins are Gods team. No sinners, or people who have made mistakes here.
Regardless this is a business. Would you let one of your best runners go and basically forfeit potential millions of dollars? If the NFL has rules and policies and he'll be subjected to it, if they believe he needs to be expelled he will be.
This all happen before he was a Raven or in the NFL. So it has nothing to do with them.

All right cheap joke time. Do you think after his time in prison that Jamal will be a WIDE reciever next year?

This happened after the Draft so he was apart of the NFL and it salls under the Collective Bargining Agreement.... which is why he is looking at a 2-4 game sitdown

ESPN's reporting that he's getting 2 games. Talk about a bonus for certain teams. Does anyone still not believe that the NFL has a definite agenda and favors certain teams.
Ravens - Only lose him for two games, get the bye week before it starts to get Smith/Taylor ready. Will miss the Eagles and Bills.
This affects the other NFCE teams that have to face Lewis, while the Eagles don't, and really affects the Cowboys because his suspension is against the two teams that matter most to them.

The bad part about it is that he's gonna serve the suspension after the Skins game. It's a conspiracy! Suspend him NOW!

FAVORITISM

Don't know if and who they favor for certain but don't think this falls into that catagory.
This thing is still up in the air.
Just because he pled for a deal, the judge doesn't have to honor that deal. The judge can throw him in the slam immediately at sentencing instead of waiting till the off season (not likely, but possible).
Also, according to the news, these charges were brought against him before he was in the league so what exactly are they suspending him for and why can they?

Interesting.
His sentencing was sheduled for Jan 26.
What if the Ravens make it to the Superbowl and he gets thrown in jail at sentencing. That would suck.

The event happened after he was drafted, hence it falls under the CBA.

I stand corrected.
