LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Chicago Bears safety Mike Brown will miss the rest of the season after tearing his right Achilles tendon in a victory over Green Bay, coach Lovie Smith said Monday.

Brown, who scooped up a fumble and returned it 95 yards for a TD Sunday to spark the Bears' 21-10 win over the Packers, was injured in the closing minutes at Lambeau Field.

He was carried off the field on a cart with his head covered by a towell.

"It's hard to replace a Mike Brown, he's a special guy," Smith said.

Brown, in his fifth season out of Nebraska, is one of the Bears' captains. He made his mark in 2001 when he twice made overtime interceptions and returned them for game-winning touchdowns.

Brown will be replaced by Bobby Gray.

Brown's injury was just one of several for the Bears. Defensive back Charles Tillman sprained his right knee and was on crutches Monday. Guard Mike Gandy pulled his right hamstring and defensive tackle Alfonso Boone sprained his right knee.

Smith said Gandy, who will be replaced by Steve Edwards, will be out for an unspecified period of time. Boone and Tillman were to be re-evaluated.
