The Red Sox have all the pitching...they should be leading the division by 6, at least.

Yankees Clobber Red Sox, Take Pivotal Series
Yankees 11, Red Sox 1

Associated Press
Sunday, September 19, 2004; 4:20 PM

NEW YORK -- Gary Sheffield and the New York Yankees battered Pedro Martinez, opening some breathing room in the AL East.

Sheffield, Derek Jeter and Jorge Posada homered off an ineffective Martinez, and Mike Mussina gave the Yankees another excellent outing Sunday in New York's 11-1 rout of the Boston Red Sox.

Alex Rodriguez also connected in the second consecutive offensive outburst by the Yankees, who outscored their longtime rivals 25-5 the past two days after losing 3-2 Friday night.

By taking two of three in the series, the first-place Yankees moved 4 1/2 games ahead of Boston, their largest margin since before games of Aug. 31.

i disagee that the series was 'pivotal'. important, sure, but season-ending? no. if the sox can't win the series at home this weekend THEN the attept at winning the division is over.

It wasn't "pivotal", we just brought the Sox back to reality! At the same time we destroyed Pedro, 8 runs in 5 inning?????? LOL

This weekend will decide it...which means, given my predictions, that either the Red Sox or Yankees will collapse during the week...lose every game...

Still, the Red Sox have Pedro M, Schilling, and Lowe. Pitching decides everything in baseball. The Yankees lost Wells, Pettite, and Clemens over the winter.

There is rational no way the Yankees can be in first, unless it was that comment...something about an old, old time player...wasn't it "Go ahead, I'm not afraid of The Babe"? And "Dig up Ruth and I'll drill him!"

F the Sox! They woke up this past weekend, how come you haven't??????

Welch, neither team will collapse, both teams are great! The Sox didn't collapse last weekend, we just had the better pitching & hitting, next week they may have it. Either way they won't win the division & come playoff time......it's a whole new season!

Thanks very much, Orioles, for beating the Red Sox tonight and gettin' our backs.
It's good to have friends in Baltimore. Maybe we could get Lee Mazilli and his crew some nice seats when we go into the postseason. You know, throw 'em a bone ?
Just kidding, Jake.
Die, Boston, DIE ! DIE in Baltimore !!
