Just wondering how you guys feel about Brunell. I thought he looked like a veteran running the team and made a few key throws, but he misfired on a couple throws as well. Was our gameplan that conservative or can he not stretch the field with the deep ball. Aikman seems to think he has enough arm to do the job. I think he is going to benefit from solid protection I'm just wondering can we go deep? Portis will be so much more effective if we can get the passing game going.

Its easy to get really down on Brunell but lets all keep in mind that he hasnt had ample time to develop good timing with the starting receivers. He didn't always practice with them and did not start every preseason game due to the QB battle. I think it'll be about 4 games in until we see consistent strikes coming from Brunell.

I agree with Troy, he has enough arm to get the job done. We can all agree that he is lacking in arm strength to be able push the ball down field. Coles stats will suffer as a result.

I don't know how this translates to gametime, but I saw the part of the "989 Sports NFL Quarterback Challenge" where they competed to see who could throw the ball the farthest, and Brunell was up there in the top few (out of the QBs that were there, of course). I'm sure he will be fine.

I think the game plan against the Bucs was run run run run run. Brunell wasn't called upon to thrown the ball downfield. That will change for certain teams in the future I'm sure.

Brunell will be just fine as long as we can keep the run game going - but that is true with most QBs. Effective run will help the pass and vice-versa. It will take longer for MB and the receivers to get in sync, but when they do I think they will be a force.

question :can brunell do the job ? answer YES !!! #1 he is a very smart Q.B. and thats the most important thing (i.m.o.) his arm is fine and so are his legs.and with PORTIS in the backfield he will be even better.

I really liked what Brunell did, threw the ball away when he had to. Moved around the pocket. I think if he had a play to do over again he would have ate the ball instead of trying to get it to Portis.

But the best thing he did was show leadership, when the Bucs tied the game he rallied the troops like a veteran QB should.

I saw nothing to indicate that he was not capable of doing the job, in fact, I saw intangible elements from him as well -- like leadership and football smarts.

Was he all-world Sunday?
No.

Was he good enough to get the W?
Obviously.

What else matters at this point? What conclusions can be drawn from ONE GAME?

One other intangible I noticed Sunday... on the rare occasion that MB got knocked down... there was an o-lineman there to help him up. Remember last year how all of the o-linemen would sheepishly slink away from Ramsey if he was down and not help him up?

I'm not putting that on Ramsey OR saying that this year's o-line wouldn't help Ramsey himself up... I'm just pointing out that Brunell obviously already has the respect and admiration of his teammates.

If they can keep him uprigtht they will have a solid QB.The long throws need to be released sooner, he can't overthrow Coles, just let it rip.

I didnt even read this thread, I just saw the topic and am going to add my 2 cents...Homie. I think brunell has what it takes to be at the very least a decent QB all games this season...but thats just me....Homie.
