Greg Williams Defense looked GREAT yesterday...i love all the blitzing! it's awesome to see opposing offense/QB's nervous and on their heals...that was as a dominant preformance as i've seen out of our defense as in years...

Yes and next week we will hand three game balls on defense to.......... :?: The giants seemed horrible at times. I can see us whopping them real good.

Bowen was utilized with brilliance yesterday! Just goes to show you what a HUGE difference coaching can make.

Yep and we got to see why they decided we didn't need Ohalete any more. I'm ok with that decision now after seeing all that from Bowen yesterday. Good call coaching staff.

I didn't get to see the whole game yesterday, but one thing I noticed in watching the defense really stuck in my mind... they were more aggressive than last year, more successful than last year (okay, more than in several years) and I didn't see a SINGLE penalty flag being thrown against them! They played HARD, AGGRESSIVE, SMART, DISCIPLINED defense!!! Oh God, I feel so HAPPY!!!

Sometimes I prefer to watch the game on the tube instead of live. But, being there live has it's advantages. Yesterday, I was at the game and noted this observation that I probably wouldn't have seen on the tube. Fred Smoot and Shawn Springs deserve kudos for their play. Yes, they made several key plays. But, even the ones that they weren't involved in they were all over there man. Smoot was all over his guy, as was Springs. I think the pressure is more on them than anyone else. They need to keep up that type of play to give us a realistic shot. As of now though, they were awesome yesterday.

the best stat of the day....

penalties 3 for 29 yards.... last year we would have had 3 false starts in the first half...

number of yards rushing for Tampa Bay: 30 yards
number of yards lost on sacks by Tampa Bay: 30 yards.

Coach Williams' uses a lot of different schemes that will favor or highlight 1-2 of our players. Yesterday it was Bowen's turn. Against the Giants I suspect Williams will have different schemes featuring different heroes. One constant though should be Arrington at weak side LB. It also appears to me that Barrow will have a tough time beating out Pierce.

Thought even when TB had completed passes, we were right there for the tackle (GO SMOOTIE), in years past we would get there late and they would pick up an additional 5 or so yards. Good tackling and swarming aggressive play. Pettibone is smiling somewhere!

What a difference one year makes! The Defense looked amazing! Very few penalties, shut down old man Charlie Garner! Bowen, Smoot, Marcus Washington and Lavar all played great! They defensive line really played awesome too! I dont think the D could have played any better! I love Gregg Williams! What a difference a D Coodinator makes!!

Whats the deal with ST? I read one place that he didnt start becasue of a virus, then I heard they went with more experience (Lott has that much more experience?? ). I watched it at a sports bar so I couldn't really hear the commentary (which sounds like might have been a good thing), but all I really remember is the one play where he knocked the ball out for what I think should have been a fumble.
So, can anyone tell me how much he played, why he didnt start, and how he looked while he was in?

Also, didnt it look like Gibbs should have maybe challenged the spot on Brunell's run to he goal line or the possible fumble? I hate to second guess Gibbs, especially after a win, but you can't take those timeouts with you and a touchdown there instead of a fieldgoal would have made it a different game, especially with the way our D was playing...

I must admit, it might have been a little selfish. I have Portis on my fantasy team and could have used another 6pts!

I think Gibbs def should have challenged the play. BUT he was probably concerned about losing a timeout. I think that was relatively early in the first half so I'll make it a judgement call. I also think he will be critical of himself there and make the neccessary adjustments to his own coaching as he will to the players. I don't want to hear people complain about not challenging the catch Rod Gardner made though. That was iffy at best and probably would have been deemed inconclusive.

As to ST: I heard the same thing about the Virus, lets hope it isnt serious. He is the one that got beat on the 'almost' touchdown to galloway. he was right there but with a perfect throw from Brad Johnson and what should have been caught he would have been beat for a TD by most other receivers. ST will get beat this year. He is a rookie, he just needs to learn each week and steadily improve. He has all the potential.

I watched the game on the tube and was slightly dissapointed.....they never showed chuckies face. They only showed him when he was yelling at the ref about something but I don't recall them showing him much. I would have died to just have seen one smerk after a terrible play.lol. THE DEFENSE ROCKED! Now if only the offense can get their timing for the pass plays down we will be an awsome team! We should have had more points on the board the way we were dominating the field. Hopefully next week against the Giants.

I've been feeling better and better about Gregg Williams all through the preseason. His defense really went out and proved they deserve some hype yesterday.

Williams was great in all of the post game interviews yesterday too. Really cool guy!

right on the head. tackling has been a problem for us forever. they did a very good job. That's the first staple of a very good defense. Things are looking good on defense =)
