I can't tell you how happy i was to see our boy Mr. Portis run the way that he did. it was what i was hoping for, but at the same time as i now watch the KC Vs Denver game, I have to say that Champ is looking pretty darn good. Who do you think had the batter day?

Portis touched the ball 33 times, Bailey touched it once (or twice). Baily takes out a #1 receiver who as of now has 21 yards, but on the other side Kennison has 97. Portis helped control the clock & the game, Bailey doesn't, even though he had a great night (so far) too, I have to go with Portis. 17 point given up by Denver (so far), I'm not impressed!

Ummm..sorry to burst everyone's bubble, but has anyone noticed the game that Quinten Griffin is having? 22 runs for 152 yards and 2TD. Even against the Kansas City defense, this is still good. Denver may have lost Portis but they just replaced him with another quality RB....its much harder to replace Bailey.

I don't think we missed Baily at all to day Smoot had a outstanding game and Springs held his own. With Champ out of the picture opposing Offences will have to prepare to play against both CB instead of trying to focus on just one. This should make their preperation harder. And we had no run output last season that comes close to todays performance. then again this is only one game and I'm sure wev'e had this discussion before

That wasn't the question! But KC has a crap run D & if you have to go there, look at how many yards our D gave up, then look at how many Denvers gave up, unless you think Champ shouldn't help stop Priest Holmes!

All I am saying is that I think that Denver got the better deal in the off season trade because they were able to replace Portis with Griffin, not to mention the 2nd round pick and that usually means a starter.

Denver did get the better trade. Lets be honest here, we got a PHENOMONAL RB!! But Denver got the better deal. A shutdown corner is in every draft, RB's are more plentiful.

BUT!!! Champ didn't want to be here and we got a great back. It doesn't matter the Quentin did against one of the WORSE defenses in the league. Clinton showed he's not a product of the system.

yeah, kinda old talking about this stuff. We can't really judge the trade until the season is over at the very least, and more realistically 5-6 years from now.

Everyone likes to say how easy it is to get an elite RB and hard it is to get an elite CB. I totally disagree. How many Elite RBs have we had the last 20 years? I'm talking about guys who realistically can break out a 60 yard run any time they get the ball. I'll answer that for you, one. Steven Davis. And he isn't on Portis's level. We have had some good backs, that were pretty much only good because of Joe Gibbs. Basically like denver RBs are good under shannahan. Look what's happened to the other RBs that left denver. Nothing, they stunk it up for the most part.

Portis will break that trend, but only time will show that.

Now, about champ. I loved champ, but during the last two seasons, he was definitely not the shutdown corner he used to be. whether that was because he started hating washington or his skills are declining for some reason, who knows. All I do know is that he wanted out no matter what we offered him, and Denver offered up Portis for him. How in the heck could anyone say no to that? Let champ go for nothing or throw in a 2nd rounder(which is never a guarantee to be a good NFL player) with champ. No brainer IMO. Not to mention I think we've adequately replaced Champ with the combo of Springs and Taylor.

Gregg showed us today that he can hold the 10th ranked offense from last season to 30, count em 30 yards rushing and 139 yards passing WITHOUT champ bailey!!!!!
That's 73 yards below last seasons rushing average and 98 yards below passing average. Brad actually had 169 yards passing, but got sacked for 30 yards. I believe that sacked yards are lost on total passing.

I don't really care what the media and other teams fans think. I'm supremely happy that we have Clinton Portis in washington now. He's gonna tear teams up all season long =)

RUN CLINTON RUN!!!!!!

Gotta go with Portis! He wants to be here, so he'll be more productive for us than Champ would have been, not wanting to be here. And not to put too fine a point on it, but when Champ was here, I didn't see him preventing losses, which we seem to have had more of than wins. Granted, a CB can't win a game for you, but a RB just might, and Portis showed yesterday that he's worth what we paid and gave up in order to get him.

i disagree with you on that PORTIS HAS ONLY BEEN IN THE LEAGUE FOR THREE YEARS AND LOOK AT THE NUMBER'S HE HAS PUT UP !!! 1500 (TIMES 2 !!) don't get me wrong bailey is a good cover corner ... but he does have his flaws i have seen him get burned on many different occasions and i have seen him shy away from making a tackle also.like i said before i like champ but over time you also will see "THAT WE GOT THE BETTER DEAL" (I.M.O.) BUT HEY WE WON AND RIGHT NOW THATS ALL THAT MATTERS !!!!

I would say Clinton had the better day, but it's pretty hard to compare a RB to a CB.

Right now, it looks like both teams benefited from this trade. Apparently, Shannahan really can make anyone a star in Denver's backfield.

the better deal???

We obviously watched two different games. I saw a great running game by Portis. It kept the Bucs out of balance all afternoon. I also saw Bailey but they did not play away from him. He did not stop Holmes in any way and his contribution was less significant in every way.

What can Joe and Clinton do other than provide proof on the field? Geeeeee!!!

You really have no idea what you are talking about. Shanahan, much to the surprise of many, schemed to open up Denver to the run. He put a cornerback--Champ--on a Tight End. How did the best Tight End, and the Qweefs best offensive threat do on Sunday, btw? Of course they threw at Bailey, TG is their bread-n-butter, which is why the Beefs suck! Putting your best corner on a TE, simply weakens the run defense. That is a fact. BTW, from what I have seen, Champ is one hell of a tackler. So he will help the run D, when he is on the corner. Secondly, if you want to dog the Qweefs run defense, then you have to also put an * on Portis' 5 touch-down--i.e. best game of his career--last year as well. As a Bronco fan I am not going to say that Denver got the better end, however Champ Bailey, and Tatum Bell, for Portis, I will say that Denver will not be longing for Portis any time soon. On the other hand, I think Gibbs learned on Sunday that Portis cannot handle the ball 33 times. He was pretty tuckered out, banged up, and this guy will not last threw that. Which was Denver’s biggest knock on him. Take away the 60-yard run and what do you have? 89 yards for 32 carries. Oh Portis will get you a long, break away run from time to time, but can he pound the football and wear out defenses? I believe I have the authority to say, no…

With that said, I am a Portis fan and still hope he does well. And since Washington is in the NFC, it is okay for me to root for the skins as well. Good win, and good luck.

LISTEN UP HERE. YOU PEOPLE DID GET A GREAT RUNNING BACK OUT OF THE DEAL WE ALL KNOW THAT. NOW THE BRONCOS ON THE OTHER HAND HAVE A VERY ELUSIVE RUNNING BACK TO REPLACE HIM AND WITH CHAMP WE HAVE NOT ONLY A SHUT DOWN CORNER BUT AN OFFENSIVE THREAT AS WELL. IF YOU WATCHED THE GAME HE WAS THE REASON WHY WE GOT TWO CLUTCH FIRST DOWNS. SO I THINK THE BRONCS WIN THIS ONE FOR SURE. ANYWAY WITHOUT THAT ONE BIG RUN IN THE FIRST QUARTER PORTIS WOULD HAVE HAD AN AVERAGE DAY SO WE'LL SEE HOW THAT PLAYS OUT FOR YA.

WHEN YOU GUYS ARE 8-8 WITH 4 TOTAL INTERCEPTIONS AND HAVE AN AVERAGE RUNNING BACK (PROBABLY INJURED) IM GONNA BE ENJOYING THE PLAYOFFS. NO NO JUST PLAYIN AROUND BUT HONESTLY I DONT THINK ITS GONNA WORK OUT WITH PORTIS IN JOE'S SYSTEM. WE CAME OUT MUCH STRONGER ON THE DEAL AND THATS ALL THERE IS TO IT.
