JEFF GEORGE LURKING FOR SEVERAL TEAMS?

Love him, hate him, or simply don't give a sh-t about him, there are growing rumors that Jeff George is one of the leading veteran fallback options for several NFL teams fearing injury and/or ineffective quarterback play.

George's last NFL stint was with the Seahawks in the final two months of the 2002 season. Before that, he'd been on the shelf after getting cut by the Redskins two games into the 2001 season.

There were rumors of a possible return to the Vikings in 2003. His one season in Minnesota arguably was his most effective and well-behaved, as he took over for a slumping Randall Cunningham and fired bullets to Randy Moss and Cris Carter all the way to the divisional playoff round.

Teams who have been linked to George include the Cowboys, Dolphins, and 49ers. Even the Lions have been mentioned in some circles as a possible short-term destination for George, if Joey Harrington get dinged (or plays like dung) and Mike McMahon isn't ready to get it done.

In Dallas, we're hearing that the Tuna is concerned that Vinny Testaverde (who looked downright spry on occasion in the preseason) won't hold up for 16 games. With Drew Henson relegated to No. 3 behind Tony "Ron't Rall Me A" Romo, the 'Boys aren't prepared to turn over the offense to either of these guys.

But why George? Because despite all the warts (and liver spots), Jeffy's got a gun.

He's fit the same description for years -- arm by NASA, body by Lego. But with a shortage of rocket arms in the NFL right now, George is as attractive as ever for teams that don't go two-deep with potential starters.

what a waste of time. the guy is a moron. if marty dumped jeff completely only to have tony banks as his fallback guy, that should say enough.

Man, I hope the 'Pies pick him up. I don't think the Tuna is that stupid, though Jerry Jones might be.

He'll probably end up on the Eagles. *giggles*
Or the Ravens. How fitting.
