The Skins plan to sign quarterback Tim Hasselbeck and are giving serious consideration to releasing Rob Johnson! I am so happy to hear this. I don't care if I still have 19 cards left for Johnson to sign, he doesn't sign much anyways. I have two of Hasselbeck and I bet he signs 'em. Cards aside, I would really rather have any backup qb in this league besides wuerffel and johnson. Also, the Skins reportedly were supposed to tryout former Jaguar Micah Ross today.

Redskins Sign Hasselbeck, Release R. Johnson

The Redskins have signed quarterback Tim Hasselbeck to the team's 53-man roster. To make room for Hasselbeck, the team released backup QB Rob Johnson.
Hasselbeck, 6-1 and 211 pounds, is expected to serve as the backup to starter Patrick Ramsey.
He joins the Redskins after spending the 2003 offseason and training camp with the Philadelphia Eagles, completing 21-of-39 passes for 205 yards in pre-season play.
In 2002, Hasselbeck spent time with Philadelphia and the Carolina Panthers. He was initially released by the Eagles after he completed 23-of-32 passes for 200 yards and a touchdown in four pre-season games.
He signed with Carolina's practice squad and was later promoted to the active roster for a game against Tampa Bay. Carolina released him a few weeks later.
Hasselbeck resigned with the Eagles' practice squad in November 2002. A week later, he was promoted to the active roster after starter Donovan McNabb and backup Koy Detmer were sidelined by injuries. He made his NFL debut as a holder against St. Louis and was a backup to the Eagles' A.J. Feeley for several games late last season.
Hasselbeck is the son of former NFL tight end Don Hasselbeck and brother of Seattle Seahawks starting quarterback Matt Hasselbeck. The former Boston College star signed as a rookie free agent with Buffalo prior to the 2001 season but did not make the squad.
He finished his collegiate career ranked sixth in total passing yards (3,980), fifth in touchdowns (29) and seventh in both pass completions (278) and attempts (501). He earned MVP honors in Boston College's Aloha Bowl win over Arizona State.
Johnson had seen limited duty in his brief time with the Redskins. He played in the fourth quarter of the last two games against Tampa Bay and Buffalo, completing 5-of-7 passes for 39 yards. He was sacked three times.

wow, you beat me to it Jake!!!
Is anyone really that surprised? As Spurrier said... he waasn't even looking to the correct side of the field on plays... what's RJ been doing while he was here... wishing he didn't have to learn the offense?
Still... I'm not really sure what the heck Hasselbeck's going to change... I wonder if they gave DW a call? Heck at this point, he can't be much worse than the incumbents... at least he knows the system. So what if he can't throw a football
He was probably already committed to Best Buy anyway.
Great News

With the way our O-Line has been playing the worst quarterback the sknis could have had was Johnson. He always has held on to the ball way too long and for a team that has struggled with pass protection he was a nightmare waiting to happen. Lets just hope we keep Patrick off his back and Hasselbeck on the sidelines.

What can I say? I just like to break good news as soon as possible.

I think anyone is an improvement over Johnson.

we need a savior
... think we're gonna find one of them that's unemployed?
The funny thing is... we're trying to find a guy that fits our system... and simultaneously trying to find a system!

thanks doeslammer...didn't know that
Believe it or not, I think he would have been a better solution at backup than Johnson or a QB that's never taken a reg season snap.

I thought Denver signed Jarious Jackson. I read that they had George in for a workout.

Hasselbeck ran a very pro style offense - very spread out and vertical. He was a tough QB to play and seemed to always be fairly accurate and intelligent.
