It's Gameday! Redskins-Rams Tonight
August 27, 2004
The Redskins are in St. Louis for tonight's preseason matchup against the Rams at the Edward Jones Dome. Game time is 8 p.m. ET.
Patrick Ramsey is slated to start the game at quarterback, as head coach Joe Gibbs continues to alternate starting quarterbacks this preseason. It will be Ramsey's second start of the preseason and a key test for the third-year player as he competes for the starting job with Mark Brunell.
Brunell, who started the first and third games of preseason, is also expected to see action in tonight's game.
Three defensive starters--linebackers LaVar Arrington and Mike Barrow, defensive lineman Phillip Daniels--are among seven players who did not make the trip to St. Louis because of injuries. Arrington and Barrow are nursing injuries, while Daniels has an abdominal strain.
Cornerback Walt Harris also did not make the trip. After missing most of training camp with tendinitis in his left knee, Harris is now sidelined with a calf injury.
Also not making the trip to St. Louis due to injury are the following: tight end Fred Baxter (knee), linebacker Chris Clemons (hamstring) and offensive lineman Dwayne Morgan (knee).

I hate that we haven't gotten a chance to see LaVar, Barrow or Daniels play much. I'd like to believe all the good things I read about Daniels and Barrow, but until I see them in some game action, I'm skeptical. I mean, I know what LaVar is capable os, but not from the weakside. I know what Barrow did in NYC, but not here. I know that Blache loves Daniels, and said he was the Bears' best lineman, but will he be that here? I DON'T KNOW!!!!

I'm with you. I wish we could see them in action. Lavar I could take or leave but I'm really curious to see Barrow. Not one preseason game scares me. How healthy will he be during the season??

I am just glad I get to see the game period! Usually I don't see any preseason games and this is the 3rd this year. Whooohooo.

I'm looking for:
- general improvement of execution
- Betts making an appearance (last real shot to keep spot)
- More cohesion among starting O-line
- A showing from D-line that shows last week wasn't a fluke
- Ability to stand up to angry Rams team that was smoked on MNF

I'm looking for my beer - where the heck did I leave it.
Good points RF - not to mention some good special teams play - who wants to make the team.

Can anybody inform us if the game will be broadcast?
I do not get the NFL Network here.
We do get all the major US Netweoks though...
Where else (TV, radio, web-radio) can we follow the game?

Post game followups:
Not even close.
Ok for the few times he touched the ball. Not hesitant in hitting the hole.
No way to tell once Samuels went down.
StL QBs had most of the day to throw.
Stand up? Did they even SHOW up?
-- All in all, a very discouraging performance, mostly in that first regard.
I'm a huge believer in having each preseason game he a little bit better than the one before it -- building toward the season opener.
That didn't happen. Players better plan to sit as far away from JJG as possible on that plane ride home.

execution wasn't great.. but then they ran all of 20 play designs all night - mirror imaged them back and forth..
Betts had one nice run for 11-12 yards to one side, then are you surprised that when they ran the same play to the other that the D read it and stopped it? then when they mirrored it back to the right the same thing happened? Don't worry... you didn't see hardly any real offense because you weren't seeing but a shadow of the offense.
Actually - the OLine with 3 replacements didn't allow much pressure on Ramsey, Brunell or Hasselbeck - great effort - shows what Buges is capable of.
The D line starting did their job fairly well. When they brought in people who I didn't recognize the names of was when they got run over. The pressure was there, just running zones which the Rams offense is designed to beat with their WR decision trees was too fast for Lott, Bauman and Ralph Brown who were all in there against the starters of the Rams when the scoring happened. Once Williams stopped blitzing all out, substituted the secondary out, and went to pure zone, they ate our lunch. That won't be the case in the regular season.
They stood up starter for starter and went 3-0 against them. They had 2nd stringers on the Dline, all the LB and most of the secondary when the scoring rout started.
Don't worry - after cuts the play will be sharper because the scrubs won't be out there getting playing time.
Starting the season we will be down to pure depth with no schmoes... it will be a lot sharper.
