Olympic Diving Question?

I've really enjoyed what Olympic coverage I've been able to see...particularly the track and field. The gymnastics and diving coverage (they keep slipping in) I can't stand, but I suffer through it usually and the wife likes it. I have a question though that has been driving me nuts. Why on earth do the divers insist on taking a shower after each dive during this competition? I've never seen this strange ritual in the past, when I've been subjected to this strange subjective "dare I say" sport. Hopefully someone heard a commentator mention the reason. :hmm:

I think it's to wash the urine off...... I am mostly joking, but I have heard and even seen pictures of competitive swimmers urinating in their competitors lane before a big swim-off or whatever they call them. Maybe before diving, they climb up to the high dive a spray a little of their mojo into the pool.

Not sure, either, but it may have to do with washing off all the chlorine from the pool. Also, it may be warm water in that shower, which may help reduce the shivers from diving headfirst into a pool of water.

Maybe they'll make less of a splash if their bodies are wet....versus being dry? [I thought the showers came before and after.]

Who knows...

Anythings better than the thought that they're washing the urine off....that's nasty!

I believe it has to do with washing off the chlorine. If you are exposed to chlorine as much as these people are, if you didn't wash it off immediately, it'd start to do some pretty funky stuff to you. Chlorine is a pretty nasty chemical.

<similar idea to having a shower after swimming in salt water>
