REDSKINS FIRE BACK:

Today's Washington Post story, based on issues from a "handful" of people and identifying only one fan from among the more than 4,000 who bought new seats, accepted the premise that ticketholders had been somehow misled. That despite reporter Jason La Canfora's possession of the three computer-generated views of the seating areas that were provided in advance to all who sought to purchase the seats, team spokesman Karl Swanson said.
The Post also failed to point out that the co-author of the story, Thomas Heath, visited the stadium on August 10. His resulting August 11 story correctly quoted Swanson that "we made full disclosure and told people to come look at the seats and see if you want them." That is why the seat assignment process took more than two months.
Over the eight-week period, hundreds and hundreds of account holders visited the seats. Those who could not come received computerized drawings of the seating areas.
During a conversation with La Canfora prior to publication of the current story, the Redskins noted that any dissatisfied fan should contact the ticket office to discuss their options. It was noted that the Redskins have several different ways the team might address fan desires. Among those options is refunding the fan's payment for the seats, an option that to date no fan has chosen to accept.
Surprisingly, The Washington Post newspaper is in fact the single-largest general admission ticket holder at FedExField, with more than 200 prime lower bowl seats under one discreet account.
General admission seats are intended for the individual fan. Each account is limited to six seats, and there are more than 100,000 households on the wait list hoping to purchase general admission seats.
"Since general admission is designed to benefit the individual fan, not major corporations, having secretly garnered more than 200 of the best lower bowl seats, isn't it time for the Washington Post to recognize the needs of the individual fan?" said Mitch Gershman, senior vice president in charge of the team's ticket office.

Whoa.....the Skins totally spun that one on the Post!
That is messed up that the Post is "hogging" (no pun intended) 200 seats....why dont they go get a couple box suites? There are plenty of those available and thats what they are for. Meanwhile the average fan has to sit in the rafters?
Swing the ax Dan Snyder, maybe I'll get one of those 200 seats.
Send an email to the post telling them to move up to a suite and give the seats to fans.
See, that is how Eagles and Cowboy fans get to the games.
I bet the Post is not the only company that does this, they give them to clients and the clients are not "true Skins fans".
I am pissed.

That is pretty ridiculous. Kudos to the Redskins for blocking the kick to the groin and coming back with a roundhouse to the face.

Hold up it was the REDSKIN ORGANIZATION THAT SOLD THEM THE TICKETS....So how can both of them talk.

It was my dad who was quoted in the Post. The response the Redskins gave is complete B.S., at least in our case.
1. He was never offered to view the seats, even when he specifically asked.
2. He was assured he would have a clear view of the field with the exception of a small corner in the endzone to our right.
3. When he spoke to the ticket office the Monday after the Carolina game, he was told there would be no refund issued and they would call back with options. The options were to purchase dream, lodge, or club seats. He again asked for a refund for the season and a seat relocation. He was told they could not do either.
He doesn't want to get more than he paid for out of this, all he wants are the seats he was assured he was purchasing: Clear view of the field with a small corner of the endzone blocked. If he can't get that, he wants to be moved so he can see the field rather than us sitting behind a concrete column for the entire game.
I have spoken with one of the fans who didn't want to be quoted in the paper. He was promised the same view we were, as were the people sitting behind us at the Carolina game. The Redskins disclosure on these seats is not what they are making it out to be.

Welcome mdl70, and thanks for shedding a little 'inside' light.
Redskins.com is exerting some damage control obviously. What are they supposed to say? 'nah, we duped everyone.' obviously from mdl70's perspective... they did dupe some people.
To me the interesting part of the equation is the obvious tense, perhaps even contentious relationship between the Post and the squad. It may have been obstructed seating that brought it into the open, but to me, this just smells like the Post JUMPING on the first bone of contention that they had to pick.
Very interesting.
Sour grapes from the Post for the 'reduced' press access in 2004?
It may translate into better, 'less vanilla' reporting for the fans... like in this instance.

mdl70, welcome...maybe the Post can give you and your pops one of their 200 lower level 50 yard line seats...considerring the limit is 6 per account for general admission seats.
Man, I bet that reporter did not intend to open a can of worms on this one...The Times could have fun with this story.
Let the mud slinging begin...keep us entertained for the next 2 weeks.
Good luck with your seat situation...in 5 years there will be seats hanging by wires over the field...in small print your contract will say that you cannot go to the bathroom until the game is over and spitting on players below is prohibited.
$8 beers and crappy seats...what is the world coming to???

Hey mdl70, welcome to the board. Thanks for speaking up! I didn't read thoroughly enough, as I thought this was the Post recanting it's story. Had I been paying attention

and noticed that it was posted by redskins.com, I would have had the complete opposite reaction. They are the mouthpiece of the team, and as such I take their words with a grain of salt.
I wish you and your father luck on getting this resolved. Hope to meet you guys at the official theHogs.net tailgating party this season.

I know for a fact that some of those seats the Washington Post has are in section 106. I know because I had to sit next to people who told me that most of the section was for the Washington Post and some of them were surprised that I didn't get my seats from the Washington Post.........Needless to say there were alot of Cowboy fans and Eagle Fans sitting by me on game day.
Gosh, I hope they take the lower bowl seats away from the washington post and give them the club seats. Its one thing if the Washington Post was giving them out to fans of the Redskins, which they aren't. They're giving them out to fans of the opposing team and that is just wrong.

No worries. Hopefully I didn't sound like I was trying to bash you publically for that comment. Your post was the last one in the thread and that's the one I responded to. I was just pointing out some of the spin the Redskins were putting in their respose.

No worries! I saw it as being enlightened by someone with greater insight into the issue. That's what this place is for. Intelligent debate over football stuff.

Man! I wonder who the Post is giving those tickets to. My sister works there and she said she had no idea the Post even had tickets!

Hmmm. Any way to get a photo uploaded to this website? I have a picture of the "view" from our seats in case you want to see what the ticket office calls "one corner of the far endzone obstructed".

mdl,
You can display a picture that is located on another web site in this forum by putting the url between the [ img ] and [ /img ] (without the spaces) tags. If you don't have a site to put the picture on, PM me and I'll give you an address to send it to so I can host it on my web space.
mdl70, a question

where are your seats located(row and seats)? I am in the same boat, although I won't see my seats until the first reg season game.
Just trying to figure out how bad my view will be. Looks from the pictures I have seen that the column is in the center of the sections. What row and seats are really bad?

Our seats are in 228, row 20, seats 27-28. Five seats to the left is a decent view and closer to what we were promised.

Did you upgrade or were these offered to you from the waiting list?

We upgraded from section of row 452, row 18. Redskins side on the 15/20 yard line. Perfect view of the field.

Yeah we sit in 402 row 4. Right on the 35 yard line on the redskins side. We have sat there for a number of years, and we thought of asking for an upgrade, but never did for fear of that kind of thing happening. Good luck!!

Did the woman in the Green jersey have to sit like that the whole game just to see?

Yep. We moved over five seats to the left to watch the game. I feel sorry for the people who are directly behind the post. Once the season starts, nobody will be able to shift a few seats over, and they will be constantly leaning into other people to see the action.
