LaVar Arrington will not travel with the Washington Redskins to Miami for tomorrow night's preseason game after a sprained left knee kept the Pro Bowl linebacker out of practices the last two days.
Arrington has a first-degree sprain of his MCL, an injury the linebacker said occurred when he "turned the wrong way" during Tuesday's practice. The club's training staff held him out for Wednesday's solo session and both of yesterday's workouts.
"It's killing me not to be able to play," Arrington said. "But you've got to be smart. It's preseason, man. It's not the regular season, and it's not the playoffs. I don't need to risk making it worse than it is."
The Redskins believe the injury is not serious, and that Arrington should be back on the field when the team resumes camp Monday.
"I hope so," he said. "It's day-to-day."
Six other players also will not take the team charter for Miami this afternoon: linebackers Mike Barrow (knee) and Chris Clemons (hamstring), cornerback Rashad Bauman (hamstring), tight end Fred Baxter (knee), wide receiver Cliff Russell (hamstring) and running back Ladell Betts (hamstring).
Wide receiver Darnerien McCants (ankle) will be re-evaluated today and could be cleared to travel. Defensive tackle Jermaine Haley was sent home yesterday with flu-like symptoms. H-back Mike Sellers continues to battle a sprained ankle -- he missed practice yesterday and is questionable for tomorrow's game.
